We found the headline of interest only because we couldn’t remember a Mike Mitchell in either film, let alone appearing as a star, and a quick search of IMDB showed why. In Gladiator, Mitchell’s name can be found in the “Rest of cast listed alphabetically” section in an uncredited role, while in Braveheart he isn’t listed as a member of the cast at all, though his name appears a ways down the page as an uncredited stunt player.
So what would lead FOX to describe Mr. Mitchell so inaccurately? The 24/7 news cycle, and the constant battle for viewers and readers its created, has ushered in the Age of Superhyperbole, in which the localized outbreak of a contagion is a “superspreader”, average storms become “superstorms”, mere models “supermodels” and common stars in every vocation elevated to the status of “superstars”. Such exaggeration cheapens not only our language but dulls our sense and appreciation of the truly great and momentous.
With no offense whatsoever intended towards the departed, thus does Mike Mitchell, who barely rated mention in the two films for which he was best known in life, become a “star” in death.
Now, here’s The Gouge!
First up, courtesy of Conservative Playlist, regular columnist Patriot Editor details how…
“The Delta Variant of Covid-19 is a lie. No, I’m not suggesting it doesn’t exist. It’s real, and it’s just as dangerous as the previous variants of Covid-19. That means unless you’re elderly or have major preexisting conditions that make you extremely vulnerable to pulmonary infections of any sort, the Delta Variant has a 99.97% recovery rate. Depending on the study du jour, some will say it’s more transmissible but less deadly than the other variants.
Why, then, is it be propped up as another existential threat to humanity that requires totalitarianism and other radical measures to fight? Our readers likely already know the answer or can extrapolate it from the headline. This is all about the fear necessary to compel the masses to self-suppress their rights, accept whatever “guidance” is given to them by government, and pressure their friends, family, and even strangers to get injected.
…Is the Delta Variant truly much more dangerous than previous ones? The numbers do not back it as cases are going up but deaths are not. This indicates what we stipulated earlier, that the new variant is more transmissible but less deadly. But as the old saying goes, if you torture the numbers long enough you can make them say anything. According to an article from Global Research, mainstream media is torturing the numbers in one of the most egregious scare propaganda campaigns we’ve seen throughout the Covid-19 ordeal, and that’s saying a lot.
By using media’s hazy math, it’s easy to see why so many believe the Delta Variant is essentially unstoppable without getting the jabs…”
It’s life once again imitating art:
TLJ and we got the Moderna version of the vaccine at our earliest opportunity, NOT because we feared the effects of the Wuhan virus, but because we anticipated our ability to travel and move freely both domestically and abroad might well depend on it. And we had big plans for the summer, postponed from 2020, which are about to finally take wing as we had back to Africa and our appointment with destiny in The Devil’s Pool. (BTW, anyone looking to book a custom safari to East Central Africa, there’s no outfitter better than Nasera Safaris.)
Besides, we’ve taken every other vaccine ever offered, including but limited to polio, smallpox, MMR, shingles and pneumonia, along with an annual flu shot. You can add to the list innumerable needles to guard against tetanus, typhoid, yellow fever, meningitis, hepatitis, etc., etc., etc., ad nauseam, ad infinitum. And we’ve never suffered any ill-effects, save for the infrequent low-grade fever and occasional sore arm.
Then again, we were raised on a diet of preservative-enriched foods, including but not limited to Big Macs, Double Quarter Pounders w/Cheese, supersized fries, beef, potatoes, Hungarian goulash, Hamburger and Tuna Helper casseroles, blueberry pancakes and bacon & eggs, not to mention corn mush fried to crispy perfection in bacon fat and served smothered in butter and maple syrup, all of which has perhaps rendered us immune to most illnesses.
But here’s the juice: We weren’t expecting others to follow our example, let alone planning on forcing them to do so. And our expectations haven’t changed.
In the meantime, the powers-that-be need only review their own public statements to understand why some have a certain amount of hesitancy to “trust the science” The Donald rushed forward:
“…As a devout Catholic and mother of five in six years, I feel that God blessed my husband and me with our beautiful family, five children in six years almost to the day,” she said. “But it’s not up to me to dictate that that’s what other people should and it is an issue of fairness and justice for poor women in our country.”
We look forward to Nancy trying that shuck and jive at the Pearly Gates. She’ll likely have as much luck as Don Mario Cuomo, who we’ve no doubt is enjoying the coldest seat in the 9th circle of Hell.
In a related item, writing at his Morning Jolt, Jim Geraghty sagely suggests…
“Yesterday afternoon, Mississippi officials filed their opening brief in the Supreme Court case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the first case in decades that holds the possibility of overturning Roe v. Wade and subsequent abortion jurisprudence.
As NR’s editors noted yesterday, Mississippi deserves a great deal of praise for going straight for the jugular in this case, tackling Roe head-on and demanding that the justices overturn their ruling and every subsequent ruling that attempted to prop up a house of cards on its shaky foundation.
Not only does Mississippi defend its ban on abortions after 15 weeks’ gestation, but the brief opens by insisting that “nothing in constitutional text, structure, history, or tradition supports a right to abortion.” State officials are far from alone in that assessment; in the decades since Roe, legal scholars on both the right and the left have criticized the ruling as poor constitutional law.
Mississippi’s brief is especially admirable because it takes square aim at each of the most common arguments in favor of Roe and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, arguments that we hear often not only from abortion providers and abortion-rights activists, but also from the justices themselves.
…The brief also confronts what is perhaps the Left’s most popular argument for abortion, the so-called reliance-interest rationale offered by justices in Casey: that women in the U.S. have come to rely on legal abortion and will suffer significant harm, to the point of lacking basic equality, if Roe is overturned. As Mississippi points out, there is little evidence that this will be the case, and in fact a great deal of evidence that the opposite is true.
Legal abortion has not been a boon to women, and it is insulting to suggest that female success and progress necessitate a fictitious constitutional right allowing them to do away with inconvenient unborn children.
Women deserve better than abortion, and the American people deserve better than a Supreme Court too obsessed with its own status and too afraid of controversy to correct one of the most unjust, anti-constitutional decisions in its history.“
Here’s a second shot of a very sobering brand of the juice: TLJ lost our third child in the very early stages of pregnancy, and it still causes her grief to this day. We can’t begin to imagine the overwhelming guilt and regret of those who eventually come to realize they didn’t make a choice, they deliberately killed their child.
BTW, as of now, the depraved disciples of the rabid racist Margaret Sanger have claimed more innocent lives than all the tyrants in recorded history.
Turning from tyrants to piss ants, Townhall.com‘s Rebecca Downs offers further proof if Progressives didn’t have double standards, they’d have no standards ‘t’all, as…
“MS. PSAKI: Well, this showing that was — that you’re referencing was previously public. He’s not going to have any conversations related to the selling of art. That will be left to the gallerist, as was outlined in the agreement that we announced just a few weeks ago.
We believe this is a reasonable system that has been established that allows for Hunter Biden to work in his profession within appropriate safeguards. So he’s not going to discuss anything related to the selling of art. And I would reiterate that the gallerist will be the only person who handles transactions or conversations in that vein and will reject any offer that is out of the ordinary.“
As we’ve observed many times before, the Biden crime family is so sure of their immunity from any possible prosecution (thanks to a completely corrupt MSM, DOJ and FBI, to mention just a few!) they’re not even trying to hide their graft and extortion.
Next, we offer a septet of specially selected items certain to pique the interest of inquiring Conservative minds:

(6). As unbelievable as it may seem, apparently the San Francisco Department of Public Works is proposing to spend about $20,000 apiece for 15 prototype trash cans:
“KTVU reported that officials want to install new trash cans that can withstand vandalism and tampering, while also including recycling options and alerts when the can needs to be emptied. The city is testing three prototype designs in its pilot program, along with already available models, KTVU reported. Though the $20,000 price tag is steep for the prototypes, KTVU reported that once the city chooses a design to replace its current 3,000 trash cans with, the units are likely to cost between $3,000 and $4,000 a piece.”

Which brings us, appropriately enough, to The Lighter Side:
Finally, we’ll call it a wrap with the Nature Imitates Chicago segment, as FOX informs us scientists say…
“…The lethal encounters between the two species occurred as they were being observed at Loango National Park in Gabon, according to a study Monday in the journal Nature.
In the first attack in December 2019, more than two dozen chimps went after five gorillas. “At first, we only noticed screams of chimpanzees and thought we were observing a typical encounter between individuals of neighboring chimpanzee communities,” said Lara M. Southern, the study’s lead author. “But then, we heard chest beats, a display characteristic for gorillas, and realized that the chimpanzees had encountered a group of five gorillas.”
While the adult gorillas were able to escape, the infant separated from its mother didn’t survive, the study said. Researchers said a similar attack occurred in February 2019 that also left an infant gorilla dead…”
Imagine the carnage if the animals of Gabon had the firepower available in the jungles of Chicago.
