Great Moments in Racism: The Dash Cam Tapes

 

If you were watching MSNBC last Sunday, you may have seen Imani Perry, professor of African-American studies at Princeton University, and wondered, as I did, Why do I know that nameProfessor Perry’s delightfully original point was that we need to “think in serious contemplative ways about the depth of American inequality.”

So perhaps we know her from her incisive commentary! I certainly haven’t heard anyone talk about American inequality. It really made me think. But then I suddenly realized it’s that Imani Perry! The one who nearly destroyed a policeman’s life by falsely accusing him of racism!

Back in February 2016, Perry launched a series of tweets, alleging the following:

— She was “arrested in Princeton Township for a single parking ticket three years ago.”

— She was cuffed — FOR A PARKING TICKET — and not allowed to make a phone call “so that someone would know where I was.”

— “I was afraid,” she wrote. “Many women who look like me have a much more frightening end to such arrests.”

Oh my gosh, she could have been killed!

— She was “working to move from being shaken to renewing my commitment to the struggle against racism & carcerality.”

Naturally, her story became instant international news. The president of Princeton leapt to her defense, firing off a letter to the chief of police, demanding an investigation. (I know Perry is a professor, but you’d think that, by now, more people would say, Let’s wait for the facts.)

Perry attributed the universal acceptance of her story to her “small build” and her association with “elite universities” such as Princeton. Just a thought, but it might also be because she’s black.

The Princeton police spent several days investigating before finally releasing the dashcam footage. I’m hoping they dragged it out to allow public outrage to reach maximum velocity. Perry wasn’t arrested “for a single parking ticket three years ago.” After being stopped for going 67 mph in a 45 mph speed zone, officers ran her name and discovered her license had been suspended. She was arrested for driving with a suspended license…”

Which provides the perfect segue to a suggestion our old buddy Eddie offered: in the interests of truth and accuracy, as well as restoring the confidence of the American television viewer in the credibility of those purportedly proffering fact rather than fiction over the public airwaves, the appearance of every pundit, politician, talking head, newscaster and/or anyone else on television should be accompanied by a disclaimer, as in the case of Professor Perry, detailing any instance of previous of prevarication.

Or, as in the case of another noted fabulist, future interviews would be always be augmented by a graphic of his “scorecard”, as it were:

Speaking of individuals who are 0-whatever, be it in the accuracy of their assertions or success to date in NASCAR competition…

Bubba Wallace says he’s never seen a garage pull like the one at Talladega: ‘It’s a straight-up noose

 

Seriously, what’s next?  Bubba’s gonna claim to have been assaulted by two rednecks wearin’ MAGA hats and shirts emblazoned with the Confederate battle flag while coming home at 0230 with a Subway?!?

Sorry, but Bubba’s continued clinging to the noose narrative can be summed up in these two video clips:

The more we learn about Bubba Wallace, the more we believe he has far more in common with Colin Kaepernick than Jackie Robinson, who, as the son of a very dear friend recently reminded us, endured years of  incredibly vituperative verbal and physical racial abuse.  In fact, we’ve begun to consider this entire episode, including his opposition to the Confederate battle flag, might be one big PR stunt, either individually by Wallace’s team or in concert with its professional sports franchise which has been experiencing a steadily declining audience.

We’re also more than a little curious about another aspect of this latest non-hate crime: specifically, with all that’s going on in the countryAntifa, foreign interference, you name itFIFTEEN FBI special agents could be spared to investigate a garage door pull-down loop shaped like a noose in Alabama…for a private enterprise worth billions of dollars with its own security staffSeriously?!?  Is NASCAR at least reimbursing taxpayers for the agents’ time and trouble?!?

BTW, we’ve no doubt the powers-that-be in what is now…

…will, in the very near future, take whatever steps are necessary to ensure fairness and equality of results for Bubba. (Hat tip to Balls for the new France family logo!)

Atlanta Wendy’s arson suspect Natalie White out on $10G bond, report says

 

“…White’s attorney, Drew Findling, confirmed that White is the woman Brooks was talking about in his conversation with police officers that preceded his June 12 death near the restaurant, FOX 5 of Atlanta reported.

Findling, a prominent Atlanta attorney, told the station he has known White, 29, since she was 8 years old and insisted that she was innocent of the arson charge. “Natalie did not set that Wendy’s on fire, I want to make that point clear,” he told the station. The attorney confirmed, however, that White is the woman seen in FOX 5 footage appearing to ignite an aerosol can shortly before the restaurant went up in flames

Magistrate Judge Todd Ashley granted White her release pending further legal action. The University of Georgia graduate was also ordered to stay off social media while her case is decided, the report said…”

At the risk of seeming judgmental, are we the only one who thinks something’s wrong with this picture?!?  No, not that a defense counsel claims to be representing an innocent client, but rather a college graduate’s (okay, a UGA alumni!) hanging with a homeboy with a rap sheet longer than her arm.

And when was the last time an arson suspect was released on a $10,000 bond?

The Greatest Risk for U.S. Soldiers

Accidents remain the leading cause of military deaths.

 

Last year this column noted the tragic story of Marine 1st. Lt. H. Conor McDowell, who died in a training accident at California’s Camp Pendleton when his Light Armored Vehicle rolled over onto its turret. McDowell’s fiancée and his parents have since been trying, with considerable success, to encourage Washington to focus on reducing noncombat deaths in the U.S. military. “We cannot bring our beloved Conor back. We can try to save others,” write fiancée Kathleen Bourque and his parents, Susan Flanigan and Michael McDowell.

According to a Congressional Research Service study published last year, accidents were the leading cause of military deaths for the 12-year period ending in 2018…”

The same Congressional Research Service published date indicating between 1980 and 1994, accidents claimed 16,869 of America’s best and brightest compared to a combined total of 554 deaths from hostile action and terrorism, including victims of the 1983 Marine Barracks bombing in Beirut and casualties in Operation Desert Storm.

At the risk of seeming harsh, here’s an idea: let’s stop training altogetherThat oughta do the trick!

A girl who was shot Tuesday in Forest City has died from her injures, the Forest City Police Department said Thursday. Aaliyah Norris, 7, was shot in the head while riding inside a car on Oak Street.

Forest City Police Chief Chris LeRoy confirmed that 26-year-old Shaquille Francis was released from jail on unrelated charges three hours before he is accused of shooting Norris. Rutherford County arrest records show Francis had been arrested the day of the shooting for assault by pointing a gun…”

Meanwhile, much of America’s attention was on a faux noose.  Which is just where Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, the MSM, Peggy Noonan, Bill Kristol, Jonah Goldberg and the rest of the #NeverTrumpers would have us focused.
