It’s Wednesday, July 17th, 2019…and fifty years ago yesterday, three Americans set forth on what was perhaps the greatest adventure in human history:
Not to mention the last great achievement a Democratic President ever inspired, let alone helped produce.
We were 12 years-old at the time; and now, knowing as we do the challenges the engineers and astronauts had to overcome, it gives us a bigger thrill than we experienced watching it live.
Now, here’s The Gouge!
First up, turning from the great to the tacky and tawdry, as one Nate Cain recently tweeted…
Hillary as the keynote speaker at a cyber security conference is akin to Bill addressing a monogamy rally.
Next, as Matt Vespa records at Townhall.com, what we said was going to happen finally did, as an…
We could offer some pointless platitude how Mr. Van Spronsen’s death diminishes us all, but it doesn’t…so we won’t. Like so many other Antifa anarchists, he was a rage-fueled bomb waiting to explode; we’re just glad when he detonated, his was the only life lost.
Since we’re on the subject “activists”, again courtesy of Townhall.com‘s Matt Vespa, this time via Jeff Foutch, another less-suicidal Progressive propagandist informs us how, at least in Newspeak…
Racism is the headline on President Trump’s Sunday tweets — the media-Democrat complex assiduously describes them as “racist tweets” as if that were a fact rather than a trope. (As detailed in today’s installment of Tales From the Darkside, accessible through link #2 at the top of the page immediately beneath our Quote of the Day.) I don’t think they were racist; I think they were abjectly stupid.
Like many Americans, I am tired of being lectured about racism by racists and racialists, individuals whose full-field explanation for all life’s issues is this matter of genetic happenstance that should be increasingly irrelevant in a pluralistic society.
Is it “racist” to tell people who have contempt for the country — who abhor the common culture that makes us American — that they ought to go back to where they came from? It has nativist and reactionary overtones, but I don’t think it is racist. I’ll grant this much, though: It is closer to actual racism than the Left’s usual demagogic claim: I am a racist if I extend to a non-white nincompoop like Ilhan Omar the courtesy of taking her seriously as an individual and a public official, as if it were her race rather than the idiocy of what she says that moves me to dissent.
It would be racist to tell the progressive “Squad” that they don’t belong in our country because of their race or ethnic roots. I don’t understand Trump to have done that. He is attacking their radicalism, which they wear like a badge of honor.
I don’t believe Trump is a master strategist who did this to force Speaker Pelosi and other mainstream Democrats, at their electoral peril, to embrace the radicals. That’s just the lemonade that Trump supporters are trying to make of the president’s never-ending supply of lemons. In any event, while it is beneath a president to carp in Trump’s juvenile way, I have less heartburn in principle with a president’s attacking radicalism than I do with a congresswoman’s claim that any criticism of her is an implicit criticism of immigrants, women, black people, etc.
The real problems here, in 2020 terms, are the stupidity and insensitivity of the president’s Twitter twaddle…”
Here’s the juice: Trump is, has always been, and will always be, his own worst enemy. The only real question is whether he or the Dimocrats will alienate more voters between now and November 2020.
“Billionaire investor Peter Thiel urged the FBI and CIA to investigate whether Google has been infiltrated by the Chinese during his remarks at the National Conservatism Conference on Sunday.
Thiel, who sits on the board of Facebook, suggested that Google’s decision to work with the Chinese military is “treasonous” and likely occurred because the company’s management has been compromised by Chinese intelligence.
…Last year, Google’s parent company Alphabet chose not to renew a contract with the Pentagon to develop artificial intelligence for the military.Google employees spoke out against the project, known as Operation Maven, out of concern that it would be used to improve the accuracy of drone strikes…”

A new study by researchers at Turku University in Finland found that the human contributionto a rise of 0.1°C in global temperatures over the last century is just 0.01°C. The paper, titled ‘No experimental evidence for the significant anthropogenic climate change’ was published by Jyrki Kauppinen and Pekka Malmi.
The study found that, “During the last hundred years the temperature is increased about 0.1°C because of carbon dioxide. The human contribution was about 0.01°C.”Kauppinen andMalmi conclude that global temperatures are controlled primarily by cloud cover and that “only a small part” of the increased carbon dioxide concentration is anthropogenic.
…While the methods and results of the study can be debated, this once again illustrates how there is no overwhelming consensus on man-made global warming as the media often claims. In reality, there are dozens of prominent scientists who believe that climate change is driven by natural forces or that the United Nations’ climate projections are unreliable.“

Chess grandmaster allegedly caught cheating in bathroom during tournament
“A Latvian-Czech chess phenom whose legitimacy has long been questioned was allegedly caught cheating inside a bathroom during a tournament in France this week.
Grandmaster Igors Rausis, 58, was suspended from the Strasbourg Open after a photo emerged showing him sitting on a toilet looking at a phone during a break in play…Phones are typically banned from chess tournaments because players can use certain apps to analyze their moves in previous games, gaining an unfair advantage.
…Rausis has long been suspected of cheating in competition play. He stunned the chess world by racking up victories and progressing from regular grandmaster to “super” grandmaster in a six-year span.
“It’s amazing Rausis wasn’t stopped earlier,” grandmaster Danny Gormally told Deadspin. “Seems naive that people think someone can improve that much in their fifties.”…”
At least Rausis wasn’t caught…

Which brings us, appropriately enough, to The Lighter Side:
Then there’s this classic from Mark Foster…

Finally, we’ll call it a day with another titillating tale torn from the pages of The Crime Blotter, and this story, ironically enough, from the City of Brotherly Love:
“…Officials said an unidentified 25-year-old woman was traveling with her three children Thursday when she stopped outside a pizza shop on 29th and Dauphin St. at about 9 p.m. to visit her boyfriend, who worked at the pizzeria, according to WCAU.
When she went inside, the woman reportedly left her car running with her three children — a 7-month-old, a 1-year-old and a 5-year-old — inside. That’s when police say a 54-year-old man entered the car and took off.
Investigators say the boyfriend, who is the father of two of the children, chased the suspect on foot and was able to catch up to the car when it got stuck in traffic. The boyfriend, also 25, pulled the suspect from the car and a short foot chase ensued, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told WPVI.
“He fled on foot about a half a block. And the boyfriend caught up to him and there was some sort of physical struggle that ensued,” Small said. “Then other males from the neighborhood intervened and began punching and kicking the male who took the vehicle.”About an hour after the carjacking occurred, emergency servicesarrived on the scene(Again, when seconds count, police are only minutes away!) and found the carjacker unconscious, WCAU reported. He was taken to Temple University Hospital and pronounced dead.
The mother and father were taken in for questioning and police say they’re cooperating. Authorities have not said if charges will be filed, a decision the District Attorney’s Office will make.“
It’s a decision the Philly D.A.’s office still hasn’t made, the boyfriend’s undeniable involvement in the crime notwithstanding.
Horse theft was a hanging offense in the old west, primarily because stranding a man in the wilderness without a means of transport oftentimes constituted a death sentence. And though being left in certain parts of America’s urban ghettos sans transport would be cause for consternation, it certainly doesn’t rise to the level of lynching the would-be thief.
One thing’s for certain: if an urban mob in Philadelphia is allowed to get away with murder, it will be just another instance of Dimocrats failing to hold “people of color” to the same standards of civilized behavior to which others are subject.
