It’s Monday, April 8th, 2019…but before we begin, in what’s become one of our pet peeves of late, this is what passes for “journalism” these days:

Flying blind’: United Express flight diverts to Houston when pair of cockpit screens go blank

An ExpressJet Airlines flight was diverted to the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on Thursday evening after a pair of cockpit screens reportedly went blank before reaching its intended destination.

“ExpressJet Airlines flight 4390, operating as United Express from Knoxville to Houston, diverted to Dallas and landed safely following a mechanical issue,” an ExpressJet spokesperson confirmed in a statement to Fox News on Friday morning.

The cockpit crew informed passengers of the reason for the diversion upon landing, telling travelers that the crew would have beenflying blind” if the aircraft stayed in the air…”

The link on the FOX News webpage carried this photo and caption:

Holy “Blind Man’s Bluff in the Cockpit”, Batman!

But in reality, (1). the flight didn’t divert to Houston; rather it was headed to Houston and diverted to DFW; (2). the pilots were never “flying blind”; they rather advised the passengers after touching down at DFW if they’d continued on to Houston, they might have eventually been doing so; and, (3). ExpressJet doesn’t fly the aircraft shown, which we believe to be a Boeing 777.

Other than those minor errors, the story was 100% accurate; which leaves us to wonder, are there no longer any editors?!?

The only thing we despise more than inaccurate reporting is inaccurate, sensationalized reporting.  Yet it’s so common today there’s a name for it: Fake News.  Sure, the term is usually reserved for the MSM’s unsupportable, fabricated attacks on Trump, but hyping an otherwise minor inflight incident into an almost-fatal system failure should be reserved for the pages of the National Inquirer…leaving any Fake News concerning The Donald to CNN, MSDNC, ABC, CBS, NBC, the WaPo or The NYTs.

Since we’re on the subject of Fake News, when will the MSM stop spreading out and out lies about what The Donald has said and what he didn’t?!?

Now, here’s The Gouge!

At the top of today’s order, writing at NRO, Rich Lowry echoes an observation we made to The Boss and G. Trevor last week:

Biden’s Problem Is His Ego

Biden lost all self-awareness somewhere in the Senate chamber about 40 years ago.

“Joe Biden wants us to believe that all his touching speaks to how deeply he cares about other people. It’s really a testament to how much regard he has for himself.

his fundamental offense is not realizing that some people might not be as into Joe Biden as Joe Biden is into Joe Biden. He has an ego, not a libido, problem. Biden lost all self-awareness somewhere in the Senate chamber about 40 years ago.

It’s not just that Biden’s a figure from a different era; he’s been in the bubble, deferred to and adored as a matter of course, for decades. He won his first Senate race at age 29. He served with Barry Goldwater, William Fulbright, Adlai Stevenson, and Sam Ervin. He was in the Senate for 36 years before moving to the even more rarefied air of the vice presidency.

So, he’s clueless in the way that old Washington hands who refer to themselves in the third person and consider themselves living legends always are — only more soTo use Biden’s own term, he believes his own malarkey.

He really thinks that he’s the most charming man in the room and a master at human interaction. In his view, he’s doing everyone a favor by giving them a warm bath of Biden.

It’s truly never occurred to him that some women might not want to be grabbed, smelled, held, nuzzled, Eskimo-kissed, whispered to and generally handled by their great champion and defender, Joe Biden…”

Joe’s ego brings to mind two stories, the first involving someone we worked for several decades ago.  Having played golf earlier in the day with a group of more than 30 customers during a Vegas convention, we were joined at Spagos for cocktails and dinner by our boss, a non-golfer.  Needless to say, it was an expensive day.  Upon being greeted with numerous expressions of appreciation for his largesse, this individual, somewhat socially awkward but by no means unlikeable, uttered words to the effect, “They’re talking to me; they must really like me!”  It never occurred to him, after enjoying his hospitality for most of the day, his guests were simply being polite.

Likewise, there was the time some years back we were in a group of four walking down a long hallway on our way to a convention at the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach, when a very attractive lady smiled at us as she passed.  The oldest guy in the group, a nice looking man sporting his best Don Johnson/Miami Vice outfit, excitedly stated, “She smiled at me; she must like me!”…at which point Jimmy Crilley, that great judge of human nature dryly observed, “Ya think maybe she was just being polite?!?”

Say it ain’t so, Joe!  Sorry, kid…but it is!

Next up, writing at City Journal, Max Eden relates how the Education Establishment is recording…

Racial Resentment As Pedagogy

Education researchers seem far more interested in “interrogating whiteness” than in developing methodologies to help black students improve their skills.

“This weekend, more than 14,000 academics will gather in Toronto to share their research for the American Education Research Association’s annual conference. In past years, I’ve documented the focus of AERA academics on matters that seem only obliquely connected to curriculum, instruction, and policy. It looks like more of the same this year, from the symposium on “Liberating Oppressed Ontologies and Cosmologies for Transformational Praxis” to the paper “Queer Evolution: (Re)invigorating Environmental Education through Queer Interpretations of Evolutionary Onto-Epistemological Choreography.” But this year’s conference has especially lofty ambitions. Under the title Leveraging Education Research in a ‘Post-Truth’ Era: Multimodal Narratives to Democratize Evidence, the event’s promotional poster features a lighthouse inscribed with the words “Trust, Integrity, Methodology, and Reliability,” which looks out over a sea of “Post-Truth, Propaganda, and Fabrication.”

Unfortunately, rather than a renewed commitment to methodologically sound research into education policy and practice, the conference program demonstrates a preoccupation with promoting a virulent new brand of racism. A keyword search of the conference program reveals 422 hits for whitenessmore than for “personalized learning” (16), “school boards” (19), “standardized testing” (20), “high school graduation” (23) “reading achievement” (24), “digital learning” (25), “policy analysis” (31), “early education” (38), “teacher evaluation” (41) “literacy instruction” (42), “bilingual education” (48), and “achievement gap” (75) combined.

Perhaps the most remarkable symposium analyzes fanfiction about “Beckys.”Becky” is a slur for “a stereotypical basic white girl; obsessed with Starbucks, Ugg boots, and trying to have a bigger butt.” The panel, titled, “Critical Becky Studies: Critical Explorations of Gender, Race, and the Pedagogies of Whiteness,” includes a paper called “Becky Book Club: White Racial Bonding in the Living Room,” which explores the “more insidious workings” of book clubs “laced with white supremacy and surveillance.” Another essay, “Border Becky: Exploring White Women’s Emotionality, Ignorance, Investment in Whiteness,” examines white women who find themselves “at the border between choosing to be a race traitor and repledging their allegiance to white supremacy.”

America’s education system is far from the envy of the world, and academic achievement for black students has lagged stubbornly behind white students for decades. The task of improving literacy, numeracy, and building the skills necessary to help black students advance themselves could not be more urgent—and education researchers have a crucial role to play in developing and disseminating knowledge toward that end. Unfortunately, judging by the AERA program, practical questions about improving teaching and learning appear to be taking a backseat to an increasingly pervasive dogma of racial resentment.

As Jack Reacher observed in what we personally hold to be Tom Cruise’s best role ever…

George Mason University activists call for Kavanaugh’s firing over allegations, school stands behind the justice

“…Kavanaugh is set to teach a course for students studying abroad in the United Kingdom next summer for the university’s Antonin Scalia Law School as a distinguished visiting professor, but the activists say the allegations raised by women during the confirmation hearings last year warrant the firing of the justice.

Some students also said that the university by associating with Kavanaugh makes the campus feel unsafe and threatened. As a survivor, as a student who comes to this university and expects to have a good education, to experience a happy, safe place, I am insulted,” student Elijah Nichols told WDVM, adding that the school is ignoring the safety and well-being of students.

The Mason For Survivors group, claiming to be a “student-led advocacy group in solidarity with survivors,” also urges the university to release “any and all documents” concerning the hiring of Kavanaugh, in addition to holding a town hall and a formal apology by the university officials.

But the school has so far rebuffed the activists’ demands and issued a statement affirming the hiring of Kavanaugh on the grounds that the university seeks to have students being taught by the “most influential legal experts in the nation.”

“I respect the views of people who disagreed with Justice Kavanaugh’s Senate confirmation due to questions raised about his sexual conduct in high school. But he was confirmed and is now a sitting Justice,” Angel Cabrera, the university’s president, said last month. “The law school has determined that the involvement of a U.S. Supreme Court Justice contributes to making our law program uniquely valuable for our students. And I accept their judgment,” he added…”

Good for Doctor Cabrera…at least, as the article notes, for now.

Meanwhile, let’s consider the justification for this kangaroo court, as well as the background of one of the students behind it.  To refresh your memory, two of the women who “accused” Kavanaugh were demonstrable liars, with one represented by indicted blackmailer Michael Avenetti.  The third, Christine Blasey Ford, was either a liar or mentally deranged; either way, her charges against Kavanaugh were wholly unsupported by even a single shred of evidence.  In fact, every individual interviewed refuted Blasey Ford’s version of events and substantiated Kavanaugh’s.

As for the gentle snowflake featured above, we’re curious: what exactly did Elijah Nichols “survive“?  High school?!?  An encounter with the entire wrestling team in the showers?!?  Or was he too assaulted by Justice Kavanaugh in some fanciful setting, perhaps at the Fells Acres Day Care Center?!?

Sorry, but at the risk of sounding condescending, if not outright judgmental…

this kid is full of it!  Not only is Nichols’ NOT enrolled in GMU’s Antonin Scalia Law School, he’s a friggin’ freshman.  Admittedly, some 40+ years removed from our Plebe Year, the memory’s a bit fuzzy; still, we think we’d recall the Naval Academy Superintendent or Commandant of Mishipmen consulting Midshipman 4/C Magoo regarding the hiring of visiting professors…or anything else for that matter.  So what on earth, inquiring minds want to know, would possess young Elijah to believe GMU’s president would value his opinion on the hiring of Brett Kavanaugh?!?

And therein hangeth the tale.  You see, though only a freshman, Nichols considers himself well-experienced in one area: advocacy, meaning, like the lilies of the field, he toils not, neither does he spin.  From the GMU weekly Fourth Estate:

I am a Giffords Courage Fellow, and I’ve done a lot of activism on a national level for gun violence prevention,” stated Nichols. “I choose Mason for [SDA] because…I noticed…that among all the activism groups [in Mason], there were no groups on campus that focused on gun violence prevention.

Though not shedding any light on what Mr. Nichols supposedly “survived”, his background does demonstrate he’s a jack-of-all-advocacies…and thus knows as much about the Kavanaugh accusers as we understand quantum physics, much less in fact.  All of which makes his utterly uninformed opinion/feelings as useless as…

New York Times Admits Recycling Is A Sham

As some on the left evidently see their political views as being akin to their religious views, it can be difficult for them to change their views after being proven wrong. Therefore, it is promising when those on the left admit their failures, even if this admission comes decades after conservatives were able to see through these views.

The latest example of a change-of-heart is with recycling. Recently, the New York Times reported that cities across the United States are curbing or ending their recycling programs, finding that these programs were either too expensive or had too little of an environmental benefit to make them worth continuing…”

Again, a “fable” we’ve been reporting as “fact”…for years!

Which brings us, appropriately enough, to The Lighter Side:

Then, with the assistance of the great Stilton Jarlsberg, we’ve uncovered incontrovertible evidence Jussie Smollett staged the attack on himself:

Finally, we’ll call it a wrap with yet another sordid story straight from the pages of The Crime Blotter, and this just in from the Mendocino County Coroner’s office:

Deaths of California family in van that plunged off cliff reportedly ruled murder-suicide

A family of eight who plunged to their deaths last year when their SUV went over a California cliff died in a murder-suicide, a coroner’s jury determined Thursday.

The jury in Mendocino County unanimously determined that Jennifer and Sarah Hart killed themselves and led their six adopted children – Markis, 19, Hannah, 16, Abigail, 14, Devonte, 15, Jeremiah, 14, and Sierra, 12 – to their deaths in the March 2018 crash, according to The Associated Press.

During the inquest on Wednesday, forensic pathologist Greg Pizarro said that Jennifer Hart – who was behind the wheel of the vehicle for the fatal crash – was drunk at the time and had an alcohol level of 0.102. Meanwhile, her wife Sarah’s body contained a toxic level of Benadryl, Pizarro said.

Why is it such tortured souls always take their innocent children with them?

Then again, other than the children’s ages and the absence of a doctor’s consent, was the decision these “parents” made to slaughter their kids really that much different from the post-birth infanticide recently legalized in New York?!?
