It’s Wednesday, June 27th, 2018…but before we begin, as the WSJ reports:

The Supreme Court Rises Above

Five Justices defend the Constitution against anti-Trump passions.

Yes, you willparticularly if you’re prone to possessing explosives!

It’s good to know the Constitution still means more than misguided Political Correctness.

Now, here’s The Gouge!

In this issue we break with our normal format to offer, in honor of the great Thomas Sowell, some…

Random Thoughts on the Passing Scene

(1). This excerpt from a forthcoming book by Victor Davis Hanson provides an amazingly accurate assessment of the stark contrasts between The Donald and Hillary:

Clinton was a creature of government, Trump often at war with it. Her essence was predicated on the approval of an elite; he thrived on its disdain. Hillary’s misdeeds were far worse than her reputation; the Donald’s reputation far worse than his misdeeds. He could be authentically gross; she inauthentically prim. And his animal cunning was usually prescient; her sober assessments almost always flawed. Trump certainly could be cruel to individuals; but kind to the public; Clinton was kind to her particular friends, but predictably cruel to people. Trump sloppily exaggerated and fabricated; she carefully lied and dissimulated. Trump exhausted a limited vocabulary; Clinton an even more limited body of ideas.

(2). Despite its brevity, the following struck us as dreadfully wrong on several levels:

Former FBI Director James Comey was cautiously hopeful in a recent interview that President Donald Trump won’t be re-elected, saying he felt the American people “will tire of him” because Trump “threatens what is essentially America.” He also revealed his desire for Democrats to nominate a candidate in 2020 who could appeal to the “great middle.”

(A). So much for politics not influencing Comey’s actions; (B). Who at this point would deem the disgraced director worthy of an interview?; and, (C). We frankly cannot imagine anything more threatening to America than one of her chief law enforcement officers using his office to influence a presidential election.  Sorry Jim, but your refusal to go gently into that good night…

Actually, in all 50 states!

(3). With all due respect to the abortion lobby, which is none whatsoever, what nitwit came up with this incredibly inane, indeed insane concept?!?

In conversations around abortion rights, we (people who talk about abortion) use the word “womena lot. As in, women need access to safe abortion, women deserve the right to determine what’s best for themselves and their families. When we only talk about women, and when we assume that abortion seekers are always women, we erase the experiences oftrans and non binary folks who want and have abortions.

Contrary to the patent gender-fluid bullsh*t The Left continues trying to shove down our throats, the ability to bear a child remains SOLELY the province of femaleshowever they identify on a given day!  And here we’ve always been led to believe Conservatives were the deniers of science!

(4). Now that we’ve learned the “punishment” meted out to the intern who launched the F-Bomb at Trump across the Capitol rotunda

We are aware of the situation and have taken disciplinary action, including a one-week suspension and revoking her Congressional intern ID badge (thereby restricting her access to the Capitol), in response to her breach of office policies regarding respectful and appropriate conduct. We also facilitated contact with Capitol Police,” Hassan’s spokesman, Aaron Jacobs, said.

recall the treatment accorded a Republican staffer some years back following a far less obscene offense. Further proof, it it weren’t for double standards, Progressives would have no standards at all.

(5). When did the federal government start issuing warnings to lawbreakers, particularly members of a group previously labeled as a…

Federal authorities warned Antifa members Monday to stop occupying an Oregon Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building or be arrested.

“Individuals who continue to obstruct the entrance of this federal facility will be subject to arrest and prosecution in federal court,” a flyer Federal Protective Service agents distributed to Portland, Oregon, Antifa members reads. It is unlawful under federal law to obstruct the entrances, foyers, lobbies, corridors, offices and/or parking lots of federal facilities.”

Antifa has been camping outside the ICE building since last week and effectively shutting down the building. Federal authorities went into the building around 3:30 a.m Monday to secure the building…”

…rather than simply snapping on the handcuffs?  Or better yet, taking a page from Soylent Green:

(6). We wonder what PETA thinks

A decapitated and burned animal carcass was recently discovered on the front porch of a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official’s Washington, D.C. home

of this latest manifestation of Trump Derangement Syndrome?

(7). Since we’ve raised the question of what on earth some people are thinking, Jim Geraghty wonders WHAT’S on Mad Maxine’s mind:

“…Angry mobs are not discerning or careful. They do not distinguish between their initial target and anyone who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong timeCharles Murray described how an angry mob at Middlebury College attacked political-science professor Allison Stanger as she attempted to walk him to his car after a disrupted speech event:

I didn’t see it happen, but someone grabbed Allison’s hair just as someone else shoved her from another direction, damaging muscles, tendons, and fascia in her neck. I was stumbling because of the shoving. If it hadn’t been for Allison and Bill keeping hold of me and the security guards pulling people off me, I would have been pushed to the ground. That much is sure. What would have happened after that I don’t know, but I do recall thinking that being on the ground was a really bad idea, and I should try really hard to avoid that. Unlike Allison, I wasn’t actually hurt at all.

Stanger disagrees with Murray politicallybut the mob didn’t care; she was next to him and for that she got a concussion.

Angry mobs are not good for deterring a particular unwanted behavior. They are good for instilling fear and giving a lot of people an excuse to let out all of their antisocial or violent impulses with a thin patina of moral righteousness“I’m not harassing and assaulting another human being, I’m standing up for human rights!” No doubt the man who tried to kill as many GOP congressmen as he could at the baseball field in Alexandria, Va., believed he was standing up for good causes and doing the right thing…”

After all…

But as Kurt Schlichter notes at Townhall.com

“…Intimidation isn’t working. It makes the libs quiver with joy, but it just makes us mad. Getting your opponent riled up is a poor strategy, especially at the ballot box. Mad people tend to retaliate. November is coming, and we all fully understand that every middle finger selfie, every vicious tweet, every assault on a conservative diner, is an attack on us.

So, the left will embrace violence. It’s only a matter of time. They have to go there, because there’s nothing else left to try…”

The Left has now assumed the role of judge, jury and executioner, though they’d hardly appreciate the comparison in this…

…eerie example of life once again imitating art.

Jeffrey Lord nails this particular issue squarely on the head when he observes:

Whatever guise in which they cloak themselves — actor, patron, restaurant owner, Member of Congress, Media Matters official, activist, student — in fact, behind the mask, these are America’s real fascists.

Here’s the juice: Maxine isn’t interested in what’s best for America.  She’s solely focused on what will keep her in her multi-million-dollar home, far removed from the effects Progressive policies have imposed upon her constituents.  By the way, you have to read this lame-ass explanation of Waters’ multiple homes to believe it.

Yet another reason to question anything you read on The Web.  We appreciate Speed Mach forwarding Lord’s must-read commentary.

(8). Ever wonder when and why Mexico’s problems

“…Exporting human capitalmost illegal Mexican immigrants are now from southern Mexican and indigenous people — has long acted as a political safety valve for the Mexican government. Its grandees are largely the descendants of European aristocrats and have shown little desire to enact the constitutional, human-rights, and economic reforms that they assume are the norm in the U.S. and that might help Mexican citizens live safely and profitably in their own homeland. Certainly, there appears to be little real self-reflection in Mexico about how and why such a naturally rich country — blessed with good soil, climate, natural resources, ports, and a strategic geography — remains so dismally poor…”

…became the American taxpayers’?!?  And what is it that’s so difficult for Progressives to understand about the “illegal” in…

…illegal immigration?!?  Hat tip to Balls Cotton for a primer even Mad Maxine can comprehend.

(9). It’s been said there are none so blind as those who will not see; still, the willful ignorance exhibited in the face of Socialism’s undeniable failure where ever it’s been embraced

Thousands of elderly patients may have died prematurely because of cheap, faulty syringe pumps in a scandal described as “one of the biggest cover-ups” in [Great Britain’s] NHS history…A whistleblower on the government inquiry into hundreds of deaths at Gosport War Memorial Hospital, Hampshire, said decision makers on the panel had “ignored” evidence of fatalities caused by the devices because they feared a national scandal.

Venezuela’s currency has become so worthless that it makes more sense to turn colorful bolivar bills into a purse than to spend them on a purse — or anything else. So that’s what Alvaro Rivera and other artisans in one small Colombian town along the Venezuelan border are doing — using the once mighty bolivar as raw material to make handbags, bird sculptures and other curiosVenezuela’s economic collapse has been so deep and dramatic that it plays out in ways that defy the imagination. The Central Bank has quit publishing most economic data, but Venezuela’s congress says annual inflation hit 24,600 percent in May.

staggers inquiring minds.

(10). Remember when the accepted term for a woman who engages in sex for money or personal advancement was “whore”….

The New York Times published a damaging feature about its own reporter, revealing new details of Ali Watkins’ affair with former Senate Intelligence Committee aide James A. Wolfe in addition to the bombshell that she dated another Intelligence Committee staffer…”

…rather than “reporter”?!?  Once is an affair; twice is a pattern of behavior.

Ali Watkins, meet Sandra Fluke!

Finally, we’ll call it a wrap for the week with a walk on The Lighter Side:

We’re taking the rest of the week off as we head home to our late, great father’s memorial golf tournament.  So, until Monday…
