For all its talk about “disruption,” Silicon Valley is increasingly about three things: money, hierarchy, and conformity.Tech entrepreneurs long have enjoyed financial success, but their dominance in the ranks of the ultra-rich has never been so profound. They now account for three of world’s five richest people— Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg —and dominate the list of billionaires under 40.
Unlike their often ruthless and unpleasant 20th century moguls, the Silicon Valley elite has done relatively little for the country’s lagging productivity or to create broad-based opportunity. The information sector has overall been a poor source of new jobs—roughly 70,000 since 2010—with the gains concentrated in just a few places. This as the number of generally more middle-class jobs tied to producing equipment has fallen by half since 1990 and most new employment opportunities have been in low-wage sectors like hospitality, medical care, and food preparation.
The rich, that is, have gotten richer, in part by taking pains to minimize their tax exposure. Now they are talking grandly about having the government provide all the now “excess” humans with a guaranteed minimum income.The titans who have shared or spread so little of their own wealth are increasingly united in the idea that the government—i.e., middle-class taxpayers—should spread more around.

We’re only surprised CNN “reporter” Rosa Flores didn’t manage to squeeze in a line or two blaming The Donald and/or anthropogenic global warming for the poor woman’s travails.

First up, writing at the WSJ, the great Shelby Steele relates…
“…A staple on cable news these days is the “racial incident,” which stands as a referendum on this question. Today there is Charlottesville. Yesterday there were the deaths of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Freddie Gray and others. Don’t they reveal an irrepressible racism in American life? At the news conferences surrounding these events there are always the Al Sharpton clones, if not the man himself, ready to spin the tale of black tragedy and white bigotry.
Such people—and the American left generally—have a hunger for racism that is almost craven. The writer Walker Percy once wrote of the “sweetness at the horrid core of bad news.” It’s hard to witness the media’s oddly exhilarated reaction to, say, the death of Trayvon Martin without applying Percy’s insight. A black boy is dead.But not all is lost. It looks like racism.
What makes racism so sweet? Today it empowers. Racism was once just racism, a terrible bigotry that people nevertheless learned to live with, if not as a necessary evil then as an inevitable one. But the civil-rights movement, along with independence movements around the world, changed that. The ’60s recast racism in the national consciousness as an incontrovertible sin, the very worst of all social evils.
…So today there is sweetness at the news of racism because it sets off the hunt for innocence and power. Racism and bigotry generally are the great driving engines of modern American liberalism.Even a remote hint of racism can trigger a kind of moral entrepreneurism.
The “safe spaces” for minority students on university campuses are actually redemptive spaces for white students and administrators looking for innocence and empowerment. As minorities in these spaces languish in precious self-absorption, their white classmates, high on the idea of their own wonderful “tolerance,” whistle past the very segregated areas they are barred from.
America’s moral fall in the ’60s made innocence of the past an obsession. Thus liberalism invited people to internalize innocence, to become synonymous with it—even to fight for it as they would for an ideology. But to be innocent there must be an evil from which to be free.The liberal identity must have racism, lest it lose innocence and the power it conveys.
The great problem for conservatives is that they lack the moral glibness to compete with liberalism’s “innocence.” But today there are signs of what I have called race fatigue. People are becoming openly cynical toward the left’s moral muscling with racism.Add to this liberalism’s monumental failure to come even close to realizing any of its beautiful idealisms, and the makings of a new conservative mandate become clearer. As idealism was the left’s political edge, shouldn’t realism now be the right’s?Reality as the informing vision—and no more wrestling with innocence.“
If a slavish devotion to the unrestricted murder of the unborn is the glue which keeps The Left’s disparate pieces together like some Frankenstein’s monster, overreaction to deliberately deceptive reports of racism are the resultant creature’s literal lifeblood.

Since we’re on the subject of Progressives’ staged overreaction to misleading reports of racism, here’s one, courtesy of FOX News, which was never question of “if“, only “when“:
“A bill that passed the California state senate and is now moving through the Assembly could threaten jail time for anyone who refuses to use a transgender person’s preferred pronoun.
The law is currently limited in its effects to nursing homes and intermediate-care facilities, but if passed, those who “willfully and repeatedly” refuse “to use a transgender resident’s preferred name or pronouns”could be slapped with a $1,000 fine and up to one year in prison, according to the California Heath and Safety code. The state senate passed the bill 26-12 at the end of May. Since then, the Assembly Judiciary committee recommended the bill unanimously and the General Assembly held its first hearing on the legislation Wednesday.
…Experts argue it is “pretty unlikely that, if this law is enacted, such prohibitions would be limited just to this [nursing home] scenario,” UCLA First Amendment scholar Eugene Volokh told National Review.Volokh speculates that lawmakers chose to apply the bill to nursing homes not because there is an overabundance of transgender seniors in the state,but because the demographic group is likely to garner sympathy…”

The Fascist Antifa
A headline in the Washington Post many on the Right probably figured they would never see:
The article doesn’t soft-pedal it, either:
Their faces hidden behind black bandannas and hoodies, about 100 anarchists and antifa – “anti-fascist” — members barreled into a protest Sunday afternoon in Berkeley’s Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park.
Jumping over plastic and concrete barriers, the group melted into a larger crowd of around 2,000 that had marched peacefully throughout the sunny afternoon for a “Rally Against Hate” gathering.
Shortly after, violence began to flare. A pepper-spray wielding Trump supporter was smacked to the ground with homemade shields. Another was attacked by five black-clad antifas, each windmilling kicks and punches into a man desperately trying to protect himself. A conservative group leader retreated for safetybehind a line of riot police as marchers chucked water bottles, shot off pepper spray and screamed, “Fascist go home!”
All told, the Associated Press reported at least five individuals were attacked. An AP reporter witnessed the assaults. Berkeley Police’s Lt. Joe Okies told The Washington Post the rally resulted in “13 arrests on a range of charges including assault with a deadly weapon, obstructing a police officer, and various Berkeley municipal code violations.”
Antifa is not a peaceful movement, it does not promote “tolerance,” and its methods and motivations epitomize the fascism they claim to oppose. Their tools are intimidation and violence, their target is anyone who isn’t them.
(I’m reminded of that op-ed by Yoav Fromer in the Post declaring, “the willingness to employ organized violence to achieve political goals remains a signature quality of only one side. And it’s not the left.”Violence sure looks like a signature quality of Antifa to me!)
The decision by police to step aside and allow black-clad demonstrators to take over Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park on Sunday was based on the safety of officers and protesters, a spokeswoman for the Berkeley Police Department said.
For hours, some 400 law enforcement officers from Berkeley, Oakland, UC Berkeley and Alameda County had control of the scene at the park, stopping anyone who entered at a single checkpoint, where they confiscated anything on a list of banned objects, including skateboards, eggs and any items that could be used as weapons.
But shortly after the scheduled 1 p.m. start time of an anti-Marxism rally, hundreds of black-masked agitators arrived at the scene. Rather than trying to take on the horde, the clearly overwhelmed police force allowed hundreds of people to pass barriers and enter the park unchecked.
The police effectively surrendered control of the park to guys in black masks, who promptly began physically assaulting people.
Is this America?
Do people wonder why Trump’s “law and order” rallying cry resonates?

The Obama folks could have played it safe but went for socialist gold, using the power of the legislative and the executive branches (and later the judiciary, thank you Justice Roberts) to advance their agenda.
That included federal spending on a level unmatched in human history resulting ultimately in a $19 trillion in debt we simply cannot pay, and with so many tens of trillions of dollars in unfunded liabilities that “infinity” is not far behind.One seventh of the economy was confiscated by the federal government with the passage of Obamacare.Our national borders were declared open and discussions over our national sovereignty closed.And to top it off, the Democrats all but declared themselves above the law.
The GOP harrumphed…
…that this would not stand, by God!If only…if only America would vote them into the majority…
…There is no difference between Republicans and Democrats. Put them together. They are the swamp.
Just as Republicans have the power to enact the agenda they’ve pledged in toto, so too do they now own the federal government, in toto. It’s no longer Obamacare. It’s GOPcare. It’s no longer crazy liberal Democratic spending. It’s crazy liberal Republican spending. It’s no longer socialist Democratic Party taxation, it’s socialist Republican Party taxation. All the legislation authorizing all these programs, all the graft, all the waste, all the obscenity, all the immorality, and where Planned Parenthood is concerned, all the killing — all of it is now formally authored by the Republican Party.
Come the Congressional elections next year, and the presidential election in 2020, the Grand Old Party will once again bellow its hallowed promises. But this time it won’t work.This time there will be no straw men to blame. This time their voters will know those hallowed promises are not even hollow promises.They are lies.
These voters are tasting betrayal.They will not vote to swallow more vomit.
We are watching the GOP systematically committing suicide.“

Take John McCain, perhaps the dumbest man ever to graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy (thanks, undoubtedly, to the influence of his father and grandfather), who will die, not in an Arizona prison as he deserves, but in the arms of the buxom beer-heiress for whom he ditched his crippled wife.
Then there’s Lamar Alexander, Rob Portman, Shelly Moore Capito and Susan Collins (as well as Mitch McConnell), who will retire secure in the knowledge, despite having never really worked a day in their lives, their government pensions ensure they’ll never have to utilize the bastardized health care system they’ve bequeathed the huddled masses yearning for a timely cancer screening or MRI.
And don’t forget Lisa Murkowski, who likely won’t return to the scene of her family’s rape of the Alaskan taxpayer (see “The Princess of Pork“); but rather, like Obama, will undoubtedly seek more temperate climes…leaving the voters (deserving though they be!) she’s hornswoggled to bear the wages of her sins and corruption.
Lastly, need we mention Dean Heller, another Mormon proved as true to his purported principles as Harry Reid, who will not be re-elected despite his desperate pandering to Progressive platforms?!?

Who freaks out when a man stands behind her for a few seconds.
That last detail about Hillary’s personality didn’t emerge until the world was treated to excerpts from her forthcoming memoir What Happened, in which Clinton makes yet another effort to cast herself as the victim of structural sexism. She writes that when Donald Trump wandered up behind her during the second debate, in St. Louis, she thought, “This is not OK…Two days before, the world heard him brag about groping women. Now we were on a small stage and no matter where I walked, he followed me closely, staring at me, making faces.”
You can almost hear the theme from Halloween as Clinton continues with her unnerving tale: “It was incredibly uncomfortable. He was literally breathing down my neck. My skin crawled. It was one of those moments where you wish you could hit pause and ask everyone watching, well, what would you do? Do you stay calm, keep smiling and carry on as if he weren’t repeatedly invading your space? Or do you turn, look him in the eye and say loudly and clearly, ‘Back up you creep, get away from me. I know you love to intimidate women but you can’t intimidate me, so back up.’”
Wait — months later, that’s her big comeback, her esprit d’escalier?(For those like we who don’t parlez-vous Francais, “the predicament of thinking of the perfect reply too late”.) More like colère d’escalier…”
Here’s a little 411 for Hillary: as our buddy Super T observed, anyone staring at her for the briefest length of time either has their face twisted in some awful visage…
…or turned to stone. Perhaps were Mrs. Clinton possessed of the same aplomb exhibited by her intellectual inferior under similar circumstances…

Cops: Woman Called 911 Over Meth Quality
Montanan, 33, said that narcotics left a “bad taste” in her mouth
“A Montana woman called 911 to report that she had purchased some “bad meth,” adding that the drug left a “bad taste in her mouth,” according to police. A Great Falls Police Department officer was dispatched Friday afternoon to the home of Margery Ann Dayrider, 33, who had dialed cops to report having a bad reaction to meth she had injected.
…Dayrider told the cop, “I do meth three times a day everyday and have never had this reaction before.”
…While speaking with the patrolman, Dayrider said that she “still had some meth inside her bra.” Dayrider then provided the remaining narcotics to Officer Marshall, who reported that a field test of the crystalline substance was positive for methamphetamine.
Dayrider was subsequently arrested on a felony narcotics possession charge…”
