It’s Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017…but before we begin, a cartoon occasioned by an earlier question posed by G. Trevor regarding what on earth is going on with the budget:
Republicans ain’t known as The Party of Stupid for nothin’; seriously, the clowns who couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn with a bazooka can’t even get their act together to PASS A BILL REFORMING OBAMACARE!!!
Then again, given their history, why should the current crop of Congressional Republicans act any different with a loose-cannon like Trump…
…nominally leading the show?
More importantly, we’re still wondering why a man supposedly blessed with the greatest sales skills since Abraham negotiated with God over the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah isn’t making the case for healthcare, tax and spending reform directly to the people?!? It’s what The Great Communicator would have done.
And while we’re at it, why is John Koskinen is still running the IRS?!?
As you read the article, please note there’s no mention whatsoever of the relationship between Baltimore’s skyrocketing crime rate and the Ferguson Effect, let alone the retreat by the police in the wake of mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake’s epic surrender to the mob…
…during the Freddie Gray fiasco.
Here’s the juice: Baltimore made its bed, and we’re of the opinion the city should have to sleep in it…without the assistance of a federal organization funded by the largely law-abiding remainder of the country.
Since we’re on the subject of Liberals reaping the whirlwind after sowing the wind, writing at his Private Papers, the great Victor Davis Hanson highlights the quintessential quality shared by every Dimocratic politician:
“Red/blue, conservative/liberal, and Republican/Democrat mark traditional American divides. But one fault line is not so 50/50 — that of the contemporary hard progressive movement versus traditional politics, values, and customs.
The entire menu of race, class, and gender identity politics, lead-from-behind foreign policy, political correctness, and radical environmentalism so far have not won over most Americans.
Proof of that fact are the serial reliance of their supporters on deception, and the erosion of language on campus and in politics and the media. The progressive movement requires both deceit and euphemism to mask its apparently unpopular agenda.
What the Benghazi scandal, the Bowe Bergdahl swap, and the Iran Deal all had in common was their reliance on ruse.If the White House and its allies had told the whole truth about all these incidents, Americans probably would have widely rejected the ideological premises that framed them.
…Without ruse, there can be no progressive project — as was true in the past of any illogical and unappealing ideology. In short, you gotta lie.“
You know; like “if you like your doctor/health care plan, you can keep your doctor/health care plan”. Poor Bart Stupak; had B. Hussein been honest with America about the true nature of his signature “achievement”, the once pro-life Dimocrat needn’t have taken a bribe to sell out the unborn!
It’s why, as we’ve so often noted, you…
And by the way, as VDH notes in another commentary at American Greatness, those dismayed at the prospect of The Donald have only his predecessor to thank; not only for setting the table for Trump, but also for vesting him with power far beyond those of mortal men…er,…prior Presidents.
Meanwhile, in today’s edition of News from the Great White North, PJ Media highlights how, like America’s college campuses and urban enclaves, Canada’s thirst for political correctness cannot be quenched:
“They do some weird stuff up in Canada. I’m not talking about a love for hockey that a guy from the Deep South will never understand. No, I’m referring to which battles they choose to cave on when pressured by social justice warriors.
For example, a Manitoba man has had his vanity license plate revoked because it was deemed offensive:
Manitoba’s public insurance company has revoked a Star Trek inspired custom licence plate after receiving complaints that it’s offensive. Nick Troller’s two-year-old plate reads “ASIMIL8.”
Troller keeps it inside a licence plate holder that says: “WE ARE THE BORG. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE.” He says Trekkies will recognize that it’s a reference to the cyborg villains who bellowed “you will be assimilated” on various Star Trek series and movies. He says strangers have complimented him on the plate and taken photos. “I thought it was funny,” he said.
But Troller got a phone call Wednesday from someone at Manitoba Public Insurance, who he says told him two people had complained that the word “assimilate” is offensive to indigenous people.
The dictionary definitions of assimilate include “to absorb into the cultural tradition of a population or group” and “to take into the mind and thoroughly understand.” Troller disagrees that it’s offensive.
The context alone proved a use of the word unrelated to the accusation. The license plate had nothing to do with indigenous cultures, immigrants, or anyone else.Case closed. But even had it been used in the context the accusers mentioned, a Western society that quells speech it deems offensive is no longer a Western society.
Let me make this very, very clear for those in Canada who agree with this move: A right to not be offended can never exist…”
Politically-correct Progressivism: no matter what its guise, regardless of race, creed, color or national origin…
Along with every tenet of decency, morality and the rule of law.
Speaking of Progressive-inspired subterfuge, as the WSJ reports…
“The Palestinian militant group Hamas dropped its explicit call for Israel’s destruction on Monday, a bid to overhaul its image as the Trump White House explores reviving Middle East peace efforts.
Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, also formally accepted in its revised charter the notion of a Palestinian state in territories Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war. But the group didn’t recognize Israel and still expressed an ambition to take over all Israeli territory in the long run.
“This charter demonstrates our political vision and will be taught to our supporters,” Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal said Monday. “The 1988 charter represented our vision at that time and this one represents our vision now.”
U.S. and Israeli officials said they didn’t see the move as a real change in the approach of Hamas, which has been designated a terrorist organization by the U.S. and other Western governments…”
No sh*t, Sherlock! Hamas is simply engaging in the Dan Rather school of international relations: i.e., the story’s true even if the facts behind it are false!
And given the utter lack of connection with reality demonstrated by the demonstrators featured in the following…
…Hamas has a receptive audience of the blind who will not see!
Meanwhile, in the Physician, Heal THYSELF! segment, a humbling lesson for…
“Now this is awkward. Just as Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg is rolling out a new book, along comes fresh evidence that America’s most celebrated coach for women in the workplace seems to be presiding over a company that frustrates the relatively few women it employs.According to the Journal:
Last year, a longtime engineer at Facebook Inc. gathered data that revealed a controversial finding: Code written by women was rejected much more frequently than code written by their male colleagues, according to people familiar with the matter and screenshots of internal discussions viewed by The Wall Street Journal.
For many female engineers at Facebook, the finding confirmed long-held suspicions that their coding faced more scrutiny than men’s.
…Ms. Sandberg, recently described by Bloomberg as the “Oprah of corporate America,” hasbeen highly criticalof society at large for allegedly discouraging the ambitions of women. But at the smaller society called Facebook, where she has held a senior leadership role for nearly a decade and by all accounts has exercised tremendous influence, women occupy few of the key roles.
From everything we’ve been told, there is absolutely no shortage of highly sensitive progressives at the social-media giant, and yet the organization doesn’t seem to be leaning in that far toward a more diverse workplace.
…Until there’s an answer to the question of why Facebook isn’t a Sandbergian model of corporate responsibility, this column has a suggestion: Before offering any more guidance to the rest of American business, the Facebook crew should first demonstrate how to reconcile its political agenda with the business demands of competitive technology markets.“
In other words, hypocritical physician…heal thyself!
Which brings us, appropriately enough, to The Lighter Side…
Finally, we’ll call it a day with another titillating tale torn from the pages of The Crime Blotter, courtesy today of the New York Post, as a rather beastly Brazilian…
Goalie who had ex fed to dogs goes back where he belongs
“The Brazilian goalkeeper convicted in the killing of his former girlfriend for ordering her tortured, murdered and fed to his dogs is being pulled from the soccer field and back to prison. Brazil’s Supreme Court decided on Tuesday to deny an appeal to Boa Esporte goalkeeper Bruno Fernandes de Souza, who was released in March while appealing a 22-year sentence in the 2010 killing of Eliza Samudio.
While the courts failed to act, Souza was allowed to sign with the second-tier Brazilian club in a decision that caused public uproar. Boa Esporte lost five sponsors since announcing his signing in March and Brazilian women’s rights groups took to the streets to protest his return. Still, some soccer fans supported the former Rio de Janeiro-based Flamengo star getting a second chance, including Boa Esporte president Rone Moraes da Costa. “If this city doesn’t like it, I move us to another city,” he said. “Bruno deserves this chance.”
The 32-year-old Souza was in prison after confessing to his role in the murder of Samudio, who also was the mother of his child. Souza ordered friends to kidnap and torture her in a Belo Horizonte shed after he learned the former model was pregnant with his child and sought financial support. The soccer star then had her strangled to death and fed to his dogs in an effort to dispose of the evidence.
Souza has since asked people to forgive him for his “mistake.” “Dude, what happened, happened,” Souza said after joining Boa Esporte. “I made a mistake, a serious one, but mistakes happens in life — I’m not a bad guy. People tried to bury my dream because of one mistake, but I asked God for forgiveness, so I’m carrying on with my career, dude.I’m starting over.”“
Here’s to hoping Senhor Souza’s soon starting over with Aaron Hernandez.
