It’s Monday, November 14th, 2016…but before we begin, we direct your attention to today’s installment of our Tales From the Dark Side video, available through link #3 immediately above. We’ve heard The Left come unhinged on occasion (e.g., David Remnick’s homage to Obama from The New Yorker below), but Lawrence O’Donnell’s wholly-inaccurate slice of revisionist history could well take the cake. As we noted in the comment section adjacent to the video, for those still requiring conclusive proof of Liberalism’s total detachment from reality, the prosecution rests!
Now, here’s The Gouge!
First up, Keith Koffler offers a classic bit of good news/bad news:
“RNC Chair Reince Priebus has been selected by Donald Trump to be White House Chief of Staff. Priebus became close to Trump during the campaign, proving his loyalty and commitment, but he is held suspect by some Trump supporters as being the very emblem of the establishment Trump campaigned against.
But the appointment of the well-respected Priebus(only by Washington insiders!)may also signal that Trump is going govern in a less chaotic style than he sometimes ran his campaign.
The decision is hugely consequential. Power in the administration is centered in the White House, and the chief of staff is therefore usually the second most powerful person in the country, unless the president has another aide on whom he relies more…”
Though Koffler offers a fair analysis of Reince-and-Repeat’s appointment, and Preibus could in fact, as a wise man recently observed, take the burden of relations with the Republican Establishment off Trump’s plate, we see it as yet another sign The Donald is destined…even determined…to disappoint. Then again, we could well be wrong; for now, we’ll continue to orbit over the target, fully armed, weapons hot…awaiting target confirmation.
Speaking of said wise man, next up, Stilton Jarlsberg, the brilliant creator of Hope ‘n Change, shines the cold, harsh light of reality on the fantasy world inhabited by the ant-Trump protesters:
“…There may well have never been an uglier and more contentious election. But now, in the great American tradition, it is time for healing. In complete seriousness, Hope n’ Change believes the moment has come for outreach, empathy, unification, and making peace with those with whom we’ve had deep and vocal political disagreements.
We’re only talking about people on the Right, of course. We need to unify with each other. As far as the Left goes, well, they can take a flying fornicatory fling at a rolling donut.Seriously, every time we see a weeping liberal on television, we can’t stop our convulsive laughter.Their pain and grief is like a delicious, refreshing sorbet which we’re enjoying from an exquisite silver dessert spoon.
“Please, sir, may we have some more?”
Mind you, our attitude would make us cruel and insensitive if those panicking on the Left were in real jeopardy – but they’re not. The Trump Gestapo will not be beating down doors to grab Hispanics. Women will not be forced to leave the workplace or be required to submit to government pussy grabbing (except during TSA searches and elevator rides with Bill Clinton).
Neither will women lose their freedom to abort the next generation of women (and men) if it suits their whim. And the KKK won’t receive government funds to raise hell and burn things down, unlike many “activist” liberal groups which enjoyed such taxpayer largesse during the soon-to-be-buried Obama years.
The reality is that the snowflakes on the Left aren’t actually afraid of Donald Trump, the man (although they believe themselves to be) – they’re terrified of the gigantic mythological monster which the media – their media – has created out of whole cloth. The greatest threat Donald Trump actually presents to millenials is that he may succeed in creating jobs for them. And work is a lot less fun than endlessly whining, marching in the streets, and burning American flags for no particular reason.
Of course, we’ll concede that it is frightening to hear a presidential candidate call for the creation of a “National Civilian Security Force” to conduct (ahem) special policing within our borders. A new force as large and well-funded as the military. Fortunately, that isn’t anything Trump called for – it was Barack Obama in 2008.
And how should LGBT Americans feel about a candidate who opposed Gay marriage rights and has close ties – personal and financial – to those who persecute and even murder homosexuals? That’s definitely scary, and yet another reason that we’re glad the candidate in question, Hillary Clinton, lost to a man who got a standing ovation at the GOP convention for proclaiming his unconditional support of LGBT rights.
In the interest of complete honesty, Hope n’ Change concedes that we haven’t been big fans of Trump in the past. But what he’s accomplished is nothing short of a miracle, and he’s now going to be heading a team which will presumably include some of the best minds in America forAmerica. We honestly believe that he’s going to try his best – however good that may prove to be – for people of every race, creed, color, religion, and sexual orientation in America.”
We can only hope Stilt is right. Then again, we’ve never known him…or The Three Bears…
…to be wrong!
In a related item, writing at NRO, Heather Higgins suggests it’s time for…
“There were different reasons for being Never Trump.
On the left, the meme that Trump supporters are all the deplorable “–ists” has taken hold. The idea is that this is all this election represents: a triumph of angry, racist misogynists lashing back at a black president and a potential female one. One has to conclude they haven’t actually met any Trump voters; otherwise, the inanity of their analysis is hard to sustain.
In the middle and in the GOP “establishment,” when Trump was doing badly, some became Never Trump (or, more accurately, “Only If He Might Win Trump”) because they like to back a winner and flinch from association with a loser. Their support ebbed and flowed with the changing consensus that Trump might or couldn’t win, and so a number ended on the wrong side of the trade and even if nominally supporting Trump, they didn’t expect success.
Finally, on the right, there were many wonderful, dedicated, principled conservatives who were repelled by Trump personally and saw him as protectionist, isolationist, nativist, and possibly racist. They were concerned that he would do long-term harm to the brand of both their philosophy and their party, and they traveled in circles where everyone they knew and cared about felt similarly. The conviction that Trump not only should not but could not win was one in which they were deeply invested.
Why so invested in that idea? Possibly because if they admitted that he could win (however awful they believed a Trump presidency would be), they would have to explain why a Trump presidency would be worse overall than a Clinton presidency. If Trump wasn’t going to win anyway, they didn’t need to justify not voting for Trump.
A scene worth any risk involved with a President Trump.
Why was voting for Trump a problem? Because they asked the question “What does my vote say about me?” (When the question should have been, “What does a Hillary presidency mean for my country?”)And their answer was that voting for Trump was tantamount to endorsing his beliefs and behavior, which put them on the wrong side of how they wanted to see themselves, and wanted their friends and colleagues to see them, too.
But those who voted for Trump answered that question differently: How they voted was not about endorsing the worst of Trump but about the future of the country. Indeed, in focus groups we did this year, as well as anecdotally, Trump voters were better versed and more keenly aware of Trump’s warts than repelled and consequently undecided voters were. And while most had not favored Trump at the beginning of the election season, they were convinced that the gravity of this turning point for our country superseded their concerns about Trump’s flaws.
Now that Trump is in fact the president-elect, most Never Trumpers will complete the last of the stages of grief — acceptance — that many of their compatriots traveled through just a little faster. They are coming to terms, many with relief and even some exhilaration, that Hillary won’t be president, that the Senate majority has been retained, that we might in fact start to undo the damage of the last eight-plus years.
With that acceptance will come the opportunity for fresh perspectives if they are open to a new point of view…”
Besides, as Erika Haas writes at Townhall.com, there’s always the chance the man who’s called every presidential election since 1984 correctly will be proved prescient in his latest and boldest prediction:
AU Professor Predicts Trump’s Impeachment
“Back in September, Allan Lichtman, a professor of history at American University, predicted that Donald Trump would win the election. The forecast wouldn’t have been all that shocking if Lichtman hadn’t also correctly predicted every presidential election since 1984.
…During that same interview, Lichtman made another prediction that the Washington Post left out in the original article: Trump will make it to the White House, but he’ll also be impeached by a Republican Congress.
“I’m going to make another prediction,” he said. “This one is not based on a system; it’s just my gut. They don’t want Trump as president, because they can’t control him. He’s unpredictable. They’d love to have Pence – an absolutely down-the-line, conservative, controllable Republican. And I’m quite certain Trump will give someone grounds for impeachment, either by doing something that endangers national security or because it helps his pocketbook.”…”
Such as, but certainly not limited to, Barry Obama’s unconstitutional nuclear treaty and ransom deal with Iran…the Clintons’ phony “fund”-ation…or lying under oath! We know one thing: if Trump’s subject to the same impeachment standards which have been applied to past Progressive Presidents, he’ll have to commit a crime or misdemeanor of a very high order indeed for a Republican House to even consider impeachment as an option!
Moving on, in a forward from Jeff Foutch, the WSJ‘s Kimberly Strassel blows the cover off…
Trump’s Secret Weapon: Obama
Not to take away from the GOP victory, but this was a rejection of Obama’s governing.
“President-elect Donald Trump paid a visit to the White House Thursday, and by all accounts he was pleasant toward the current occupant. He should be, since Mr. Trump owes his victory to Barack Obama.
Hillary Clinton’s defeat has left the Democratic Party a smoldering heap, its leaders pointing fingers over who or what to blame: James Comey. Robby Mook. Voter suppression. WikiLeaks. Sexism. Barely a mention has been made of the man who presided over one of the most epic party meltdowns in the country’s history: Mr. Obama.
Deep Democratic fissures have been on display for years, with Mrs. Clinton’s rancorous primary against Bernie Sanders only the most recent example. But the media chose to ignore this and instead to obsess about largely superficial GOP divisions. All along this election has been portrayed as a referendum on Mr. Trump. Tuesday’s results are far better viewed as a thundering repudiation, at every level, of Mr. Obama’s governing and policies…”
An absolutely accurate assessment of the ass-kicking which the Dims received last week.
Which makes this next article by one David Remnick, courtesy of our sister-in-law Amy and The New Yorker, all the more amazingly asinine for the depths of the writer’s self-deception:
“The election of Donald Trump to the Presidency is nothing less than a tragedy for the American republic, a tragedy for the Constitution, and a triumph for the forces, at home and abroad, of nativism, authoritarianism, misogyny, and racism. Trump’s shocking victory, his ascension to the Presidency, is a sickening event in the history of the United States and liberal democracy. On January 20, 2017, we will bid farewell to the first African-American President—a man of integrity, dignity, and generous spirit—and witness the inauguration of a con who did little to spurn endorsement by forces of xenophobia and white supremacy. It is impossible to react to this moment with anything less than revulsion and profound anxiety…”
One cannot help but wonder on what planet Mr. Remnick resided for the last 8 years that he could even begin to describe the most divisive, deceitful, secretive, corrupt, lawless and anti-American President in the nation’s history in such fashion. No doubt he would have referred to the…”woman”…who would have become the second-most in every category above, Hillary, in the same glowing terms.
As LCDR Montgomery Scott once observed…
Remnick and the rest of the lowing Liberal herd fail to consider…or perhaps more accurately, refuse to contemplate…a significant number of Dimocrats willing to take a chance on the first half-Black President solely because of his skin color, having discovered their trust was deliberately betrayed by what was in reality a dusky tool of crony capitalists and special interests, weren’t willing to be fooled a second time by a lying, corrupt, hideous harpy whose only qualification for Leader of the Free World was a vagina.
Which brings to what should be one of the first things on Trump’s to-do list: informing Liberal law-breakers at the state and municipal levels national elections do indeed have consequences!
Attention sanctuary cities: enforce all federal immigration lawsor forego federal funds. It’s the sword Progressives have been hanging over Conservatives’ heads for decades; time the tables were turned!
Turning now to The Lighter Side…
Finally, we’ll call it a wrap with yet another titillating tale torn from the pages of The Crime Blotter, and this just in from the City of Brotherly Love:
“Four people, including an off-duty police detective and his wife, were taken to a hospital after a “flash mob” attack by some among a crowd of juveniles in downtown Philadelphia, police said. Police said a large crowd of juveniles were at 16th and Walnut streets, a popular spot for dining and shopping, at about 6 p.m. Saturday when some people began randomly assaulting people on the street.
A 55-year-old off-duty police detective saw a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman being assaulted and tried to arrest one of the offenders. He was punched from behind by several people, police said. The detective’s 53-year-old wife splashed water on the offenders to try to stop them from attacking her husband, and she was punched in the face, police said. All of the offenders then fled…”
We’re gonna go out on a limb here and conclude since the race of the assailants didn’t fit the MSM’s race narrative, it was purposefully excluded from the story. Then again, perhaps the reporter simply assumed the ethnicity of such cowardly thugs was implicit in the description of the assaults!
So once again, we say…
Not to mention dividing the country more than any President since Abraham Lincoln…though for all the opposite motives and intent!
