Pelosi: Catholic Bishops ‘Lobbyists’ for Opposing Obamacare

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (P-CA) on Thursday described America’s Roman Catholic bishops as “lobbyists in Washington, DC” in their efforts to persuade the Department of Health & Human Service to rescind a proposed regulation under the new healthcare insurance law that would force Catholics to act against the teachings of their church by compelling them to purchase healthcare plans that cover sterilizations and all FDA approved contraceptives, including abortifacients.

The proposed regulation, scheduled to take effect on Aug. 1, 2012, would require every health insurance plan in the United States to cover sterilizations and all FDA-approved contraceptives (which include abortifacients) without charging any co-pay. The Catholic Church teaches that sterilization, artificial contraception and abortion are morally wrong and that Catholics cannot be involved in them.

Pelosi was asked at her press briefing on Thursday: “In August, HHS issued a proposed regulation under the new health care law that would require that all health care plans cover sterilizations and all FDA-approved contraceptives. The U.S. Catholic bishops have called the regulation an unprecedented attack on religious freedom and have asked HHS to drop it. Do you agree with the bishops?”

Noting that she is “a devout Catholic,” Pelosi said she sometimes disagrees with the Catholic bishops when they act as “lobbyists.”

“I don’t know if I agree with your characterization of what the HHS put forth,” Pelosi said, “but as a mother of five children in six years, as a devout Catholic, I have great respect for our bishops when they are my pastor. As lobbyists in Washington DC, we have some areas of disagreement. “Again,” she continued, “I don’t understand the proposal as you described it. So, I won’t be able to answer it….”

Which should surprise no one coming from a “leader” stupid enough to admit….

It’s been how long since she rammed Obamascare through without the faintest idea what was in it….and she STILL doesn’t know?!?  By the way, though we truly cannot judge what’s in a person’s heart, if Nancy’s thinking her version of “devout” Catholicism is going to save her from the fires of Hell, she might as well convert to either Scientology or The People’s Temple.

Obama Fundraiser and Ambassador Blames Israel for Anti-Semitism

The U.S. ambassador to Belgium, Howard Gutman, recently told a conference hosted by the European Jewish Union that Israel is to blame for growing anti-Semitism harbored by people of Muslim faith.

“A distinction should be made between traditional anti-Semitism, which should be condemned and Muslim hatred for Jews, which stems from the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestinians,” Gutman reportedly said, according to the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahrononth. “He also argued that an Israeli-Palestinian peace treaty will significantly diminish Muslim anti-Semitism.”

According to the account in the Israeli paper, “The legal experts at the event were visibly stunned by Gutman’s words, and the next speaker offered a scathing rebuttal to the envoy’s remarks.”

Gutman was a major fundraiser for President Obama’s 2008 election campaign. He bundled $500,000 for Obama, according to OpenSecrets.org, personally givingat least $2,300 to the campaign. In 2009, Obama nominated Gutman, a Washington, D.C. attorney, to be ambassador to Belgium.

Gutman concluded his remarks by predicting Islam’s unreasoned anti-Semitism would disappear completely once “someone comes up with a final solution to the problem”.  French President Nicholas Sarkozy added Jews were all “liars”, to which America’s Obamao was heard to respond, “Now you know what I have to deal with every day.” (Okay….we made up that last part.)

If this Administration’s pro-Israel, Bill Clinton’s monogamous.  Then again, Team Tick-Tock’s “It’s What I Say, Not What I Do!” attitude puts them in good company; after all, Adolf Eichmann claimed to be a Zionist as well!

Meanwhile, Ron Paul’s opinion on who’s responsible for America’s response to Islamic terror notwithstanding, as this next item forwarded by Carl Polizzi, confirms, the TSA is still there on the job….….though we frankly remain confused as to which side they’re on:

Teen stopped at airport for design on purse

17-year-old missed flight to Jacksonville after agents inspected gun replica

A teenage girl’s sense of style got her in trouble at the airport. Vanessa Gibbs, 17, claims the Transportation Security Administration stopped her at the security gate because of the design of a gun on her handbag.

Gibbs said she had no problem going through security at Jacksonville International Airport, but rather, when she headed home from Virginia. “It’s my style, it’s camouflage, it has an old western gun on it,” Gibbs said. But her preference for the pistol style didn’t sit well with TSA agents at the Norfolk airport.

Gibbs said she was headed back home to Jacksonville from a holiday trip when an agent flagged her purse as a security risk. “She was like, ‘This is a federal offense because it’s in the shape of a gun,'” Gibbs said. “I’m like, ‘But it’s a design on a purse. How is it a federal offense?'”

After agents figured out the gun was a fake, Gibbs said, TSA told her to check the bag or turn it over. By the time security wrapped up the inspection, the pregnant teen missed her flight, and Southwest Airlines sent her to Orlando instead, worrying her mother, who was already waiting for her to arrive at JIA.

TSA isn’t budging on the handbag, arguing the phony gun could be considered a “replica weapon.” The TSA says “replica weapons have prohibited since 2002.” (Which of course means Galaxy Quest‘s Security Chief Roc Ingersoll’s….

It’s a rule that Vanessa feels can’t be applied to a purse. “Common sense,” she said. “It’s a purse, not a weapon.”

“Common sense”….is Vanessa serious?!?  From an agency of the United States government?!?  What’s it been….over 11 years?  And these useless pieces of political window-dressing have yet to foil a single act of terror, all the while incurring untold costs, man-years of delays and countless hours of needless aggravation.
