It’s Thursday, June 12th, 2014…but before we begin, a quick thought on our current circumstances. We recently happened upon the movie Deep Impact while working out and were struck by two thoughts. (A) Who would have imagined back in 1999 watching Morgan Freeman portray a black President…
…life would imitate art a mere ten years later? (B) Who could have envisioned the devastation wrought by the movie’s fictional comet would pale in comparison to the destruction visited upon America by Freeman’s real-world counterpart?
Now, here’s The Gouge!
First up, The Dear Misleader’s devoted disciples continue to spin faster than tops:
Kerry’s predecessor as Secretary of Utterly Ineffectual Diplomacy echoed his premeditated prevarication:
Three thoughts: (1) Did you catch Matt Lauer’s little bon mot at the end? What a bald bag of douce! (2) If the GOP doesn’t beat Hillary over the head with her role/comments regarding Bosnia, Benghazi and Bergdahl in the run-up to 2016, we may never vote Republican again. (3) As we think about it, perhaps Kerry has a point; after all, what could be more risky for a soldier than working under a Commander-in-Chief antithetically opposed to their mission, let alone everything they’re sworn to protect and defend?
Next up, as the WSJ‘s Dan Henninger notes, Team Tick-Tock’s foreign policy failures continue to mount faster than Bill Clinton on an intern:
“The fall of Mosul, Iraq, to al Qaeda terrorists this week is as big in its implications as Russia’s annexation of Crimea. But from the Obama presidency, barely a peep.
Barack Obama is fiddling while the world burns. Iraq, Pakistan, Ukraine, Russia, Nigeria, Kenya, Syria. These foreign wildfires, with more surely to come, will burn unabated for two years until the United States has a new president. The one we’ve got can barely notice or doesn’t care…“
Bagdad is next; and unless someone…like the Iranians…intervene, there’s much, much worse to come:
Why? Because, like Benghazi, it doesn’t fit the Administration’s narrative of Al Queda in retreat. But if Iraq is bad, wait until you see the horrors visited upon Afghanistan when the Taliban take over.
And would it surprise you to know…
As if there’s any question they were once again caught flat-footed.
And for those still mystified by the strategy behind The Anointed One’s foreign misadventures, Commentary Magazine‘s Jonathan Tobin reveals The Obamao’s taking his cues from the French:
“Taken together, the Iran and Bergdahl negotiations show that discussions of Obama’s weakness are not about metaphors or apology tours that are rooted in symbolism rather than substance. The last year of American foreign policy has proven that the key to the president’s diplomacy is that he gives up when pressed by opponents….“
Which is perhaps why he tapped John Kerry…
…to continue the work Hillary started.
Since we’re on the subject of Americans who’ve made a career out of dishonoring their country, courtesy of NRO, Colonel Ralph Peters offers his thoughts on…
“…Of course, Private Bergdahl himself is the perfect soldier for those whose concept of our military was formed by Oliver Stone movies. Reportedly disillusioned with the war, he just walks away, a model of nobility, to seek out the enemy and find common ground. Bergdahl is a hero — for everyone on the left who despises our military. It’s a shame Sean Penn’s too old to play the role.
Meanwhile, with a straight face, Obama and his fellow travelers in the White House and media caution us not to “pre-judge” Bergdahl. That would have been a more credible plea before the president and his advisers pre-judged Bergdahl as a hero…“
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, another leader of The Gang Who Still Can’t Shoot Straight bites the dust. As John Fund, writing at NRO‘s The Corner tells us, the signs were there:
“Eric Cantor’s loss is historic. No sitting House majority leader has lost an election since the office was created in 1899. While Cantor’s loss was a stunning surprise, the warning signals were around for a while…“
As Ross Kaminsky notes at The American Spectator, this wasn’t just a defeat for the House Majority Leader…
“…despite the “Tea Party” appellation in nearly every news article about the election, Brat is only a Tea Party candidate in the sense of running on principles and seeming to be sincere when referencing the American Constitution — both of which are anathema to the Fourth Estate and too often to Republican leadership who prefer constitutional lip service over honoring their oaths of office…”
One quick thought; Kaminsky states in his commentary, “Nevertheless, this election could put a fork in the chances of immigration reform not just this year, but for several years to come — a result that some will cheer despite the obvious need to fix a failed and failing system.”
The system is neither failing nor does it need much fixing beyond eliminating the granting of citizenship to the offspring of illegals born north of the border. The problem is existing immigration laws are simply not being enforced!!! And what makes anyone on the Republican side believe two lying, lawless Liberals (aka Marxists!)…
…who literally should be in prison can be depended upon to recognize or enforce new laws when they so often ignore those currently on the books?!?
Which brings finally to the Lighter Side:
