It’s Sunday, June 8th, 2014…and here’s The Gouge!
First up, courtesy of The Weekly Standard, in a must-read commentary, Steve Hayes summarizes…

It was, for Obama, a fleeting moment of triumph…And then came the unraveling…”
Hayes is being charitable. The Dear Misleader didn’t tell a story; like Benghazi, he told an outright fable he knew to be a lie. And it wasn’t like his newest, bestest anti-American friends…
…helped him maintain the already-flimsy charade.
The Bergdahl debacle is simply confirmation the only thing transparent about The Obamao’s White House is its constant stream of patent prevarications and deliberate deceptions.
In a related item, brought to us by PJ Media, Richard Fernandez begins…
“President Obama explained that he traded the Taliban 5 for Bowe Bergdahl because it’s what great men do.
“This is what happens at the end of wars,” Obama said, speaking in Poland. That was true for George Washington, that was true for Abraham Lincoln, that was true for FDR.”
He forgot to add “then it is true for me.” Much is plain to those who walk in the footsteps of giants. Except it’s little hard to remember when exactly Washington, Lincoln or FDR sent conquering heroes straight into a mental asylum to shut them up for years. Time magazine explains that “Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is just days into what could be months or years of recovery.” Bergdahl could see the outside of a fence around the time President Obama ends his second term.
You’d think Obama was hiding something. Even MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski notices that nothing about Bergdahl adds up. (And that requires something as obvious as the ears on The Obamao’s head!)
The question about his health, it’s a controversy. Why, then, also given his background and everything that we are finding from people who served with him and people who have covered this story and letters that he’s written home — why would Susan Rice be sent out, Susan Rice, be sent out repeatedly to say he served honorably and really push that as one the fundamental reasons behind this swap? And thirdly, with the White House contending they consulted Congress — am I correct, that happened, right? Yes? Yes? They said they consulted Congress. And members of Congress saying they weren’t consulted. What’s going on here? What is going on here? Seriously, I don’t understand it.
“I don’t understand it.” (Keep in mind, Mika’s yet to realize there are any dots to connect with Benghazi.) Here, Mika, let me explain.
It’s all about Gitmo, all about sending goodwill gifts to the Taliban and al-Qaeda. In fact, Chuck Todd, Mark Murray and Carrie Dann of NBC headline their story precisely that way: “What the Bergdahl Story is Really About: Gitmo.”
The real causality runs thus: Obama didn’t use the Taliban 5 to release Bergdahl. Obama used Bergdahl to release the Taliban 5. The false narratives about his poor health, his heroic record and the supposed consultation were all manufactured to fit this requirement. Obama really didn’t give a rat’s a** about Bergdahl. What he really wanted was to find some way to spring those five Taliban gentlemen.
Obama’s strategy to “bring a fitting end” — in the words of Todd, Murray and Dunn — to the War on Terror has been to pay them off. He never intended to beat the enemy. He never even tried. All the stuff in Afghanistan, well that was just for show, for optics, to look tough…”
Which of course, particularly when combined with all Team Tick-Tock’s other missteps, fairly begs the question Bill Whittle so eloquently poses:

Barack Obama has become a mere figurehead, who gives speeches few listen to any more, issues threats that scare fewer, and makes promises that almost no one believes he will keep. Yet America continues on, despite the fact that the foreign and domestic policies of Barack Obama are unraveling, in a manner unusual even for star-crossed presidential second terms…”
We’re puzzled as to what The Obamao’s group of unqualified, self-impressed Communist toadies think will happen after they’ve handed Afghanistan back to the Taliban. Or Rand Paul for that matter.
That the Taliban will play nice? That Islamic extremists dedicated to the exterminating Western culture will suddenly realize they did to go along to get along, learn the lyrics to “Kumbaya” and put…
…bumper stickers on bomb delivery vehicles?!?
Note to every hopelessly gullible Liberal so simple-minded as to sport one of these bits of geopolitical naiveté, there’s only one religion on the planet dedicated to destroying those of differing beliefs:
So please, take it up with them…and spare the rest of us your childhood fantasies.

Though as with every cloud, here too there’s a silver lining; we know of at least one segment of society, parasitic though it be, The Obamao’s keeping employed:
“The Obama administration said Friday that it was starting a program to provide lawyers for children facing deportation as it scrambles to deal with the soaring number of unaccompanied minors illegally crossing the border from Mexico. Under the plan, the federal government will issue $2 million in grants to enroll about 100 lawyers and paralegals to represent immigrant children making their way through the immigration court system.
“We’re taking a historic step to strengthen our justice system and protect the rights of the most vulnerable members of society,” Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. said in a statement. “How we treat those in need, particularly young people who must appear in immigration proceedings — many of whom are fleeing violence, persecution, abuse or trafficking — goes to the core of who we are as a nation.”…”
Except they’re not members of OUR society, let alone citizens of our nation, you malevolent Marxist. Then again, it’s all about the children, right? Yeah…

If you think of the United States of America as a store, its recent decisions and scandals resemble a sale, perhaps a fire sale. Or maybe even a “Going Out of Business” sale.
The list of dramatic markdowns is breathtaking. They include trading away five murderous terrorists for a likely Army deserter, an open invitation to tens of thousands of illegal immigrants to cross the Mexican border, and a decision to recognize the terrorist group Hamas as part of the Palestinian government.
On the home front, environmental regulations will cost thousands of coal miners their jobs and drive up the cost of electricity for millions. The ObamaCare mess is hardly resolved, and the Veterans Affairs scandal keeps getting worse. The acting agency head reported the deaths of 18 more vets who were kept off the official waiting list in Phoenix.
Ticking quietly in the background is the mother of all threats — an Iranian nuclear bomb. That ticking grew louder last week as the ayatollah mocked our nation by standing in front of a banner that proclaimed, “America cannot do a damn thing.”
Maybe Barry could impose upon Bill Bergdahl to translate!
Technically, he’s wrong. It’s not that we cannot stop the mad mullahs’ march. It’s that President Obama has taken the military option off the table, and without it, Iran has nothing to fear. Our impotence was a choice.
Add to the combustible mix the expansionist moods in Russia and China, and the series of events recalls an observation by the late economist Herb Stein. Speaking in another context, he said that, “If something can’t go on forever, it won’t.” That sums up the current sense of the nation as a whole.
What seemed for years a steady and slow decline increasingly feels like a headlong race to the bottom. America is careening downhill, and a crack-up appears inevitable.
It is no coincidence that the deal with the Taliban to release five terrorist leaders from Guantanamo brought the first threat of presidential impeachment from a respected member of Congress. GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina (What a minute; Lindsay Grahamnesty? Respected by whom?!?) said that if Obama tried to release others without lawmakers’ approval, it would lead to “people on our side calling for his impeachment.”
That is the nuclear option, and there is good reason why it has been so rarely invoked throughout history. And yet the intense fever gripping Washington, largely created by Obama’s go-it-alone approach, needs to be broken. The country simply cannot continue to remain the beacon of the free world if we are consumed by our own dysfunction and distrust.
Impeachment is one way to try to resolve a political crisis, but as former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy argues in his new book, public opinion is a vital ingredient, and it is missing. Titled “Faithless Execution,” his book’s subtitle, “Building the Political Case for Obama’s Impeachment,” is based on McCarthy’s claim that the legal case is solid that Obama has violated his oath to execute the laws faithfully. That’s an arguable point, but even to concede it means nothing because the Democratic Party has been so cowed into supporting Obama, regardless of what he does, that there is no chance to make the political case. Indeed, we have reached this crisis largely because centrist Democrats have failed to stand up against Obama and demand more moderate policies. (Really?!?)
With all due respect to Mr. Goodwin, here’s a story as real the existence of his “centrist Democrats”!
Leaving aside occasional grumbling from party elders, he gets almost unanimous support from every Dem in Congress for every piece of his radical agenda. Evidence shows that one of his most pernicious practices, using the IRS to punish conservative groups, grew out of congressional demands from liberals. While that doesn’t excuse Obama’s role, it does demonstrate that his party has enabled and encouraged his improper conduct.
The result is that the constitutional system of checks and balances has been gutted as Democrats act as an amen chorus for the executive branch. The framers put a high bar on impeachment, and merely attempting to draw up the articles is viable only when there is a bipartisan consensus that the president’s immediate removal is necessary. We are a long way from that consensus.
Still, something has to give. And unless Democrats begin to put duty to country over loyalty to Obama, America as we know it is headed to a point of no return.
Unfortunately, we may have already be…
…over the edge. And the election of any Dimocrat in 2016, let alone Hillary, can only accelerate the speed of our descent.
