“An intentional invasion of our southern border has been welcomed and enabled by Joe Biden’s administration. Democrats are politically invested in the results of millions of migrants making their way to the U.S., and they are increasingly ideologically committed to the idea that a national border is fundamentally unfair and wrong. Sometimes the people illegally crossing our border do other illegal things, sometimes horrific things.
Such was the case with Francisco Oropesa, the Mexican national accused of murdering five of his neighbors in Texas Friday night after they asked him to stop firing his gun because of a sleeping baby. They called police and were assured help was on the way, but not before Oropeza reloaded and headed for their house. “I never thought that he would shoot,” said Wilson Garcia, whose wife and son were murdered. Oropesa also tried to shoot Garcia but missed. “Then he went room to room, looking for people.”
Sonia Argentina Guzman (25), Diana Velazquez Alvarado (21), Julisa Molina Rivera (31), Jose Jonathan Casarez (18), and Daniel Enrique Laso (8) were all shot in the head execution style. Two of the women shielded three young children who survived. All five were from Honduras, though their legal status is unclear.
What is clear is that Oropesa was here illegally this time, and he’d been deported as many as five times previously. As we go to press, American authorities are still searching for him, with a combined $80,000 reward for tips leading to his apprehension. He’s considered armed and dangerous. As for that open border, 87% of Americans know exactly where to put the blame: on the federal government. (More specifically, Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr.)
…Voters will have a choice next year between continued humanitarian crisis and murderous mayhem brought by Joe Biden’s open border or any number of Republican candidates who believe that a secure border is a fundamental responsibility of a presidential administration.
How many more innocent people have to die before that choice becomes a bit easier?”
Setting aside for the moment the question of how Mr. Oropesa crossed our border with repeated and complete impunity, what inquiring Conservative minds want to know is how an illegal alien who’d been deported multiple times was able to obtain an AR-15? We’re willing to bet he didn’t acquire it legally, meaning Progressives’ dream of a ban on the most popular semi-automatic rifle in the country wouldn’t have prevented his killing spree. On the other hand, were our southern border effectively controlled, Senor Oropesa would have been in Mexico, not America. It’s also ironic the victims, all of who likely came here from Honduras for a better life, would have still been there…and alive.
“The Supreme Court agreed to hear Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, a case which could see an end to Chevron deference, in which courts defer to a federal agency’s interpretation of an ambiguous statute.
The Court limited its grant of certiorari to the second question presented — namely, “whether the Court should overrule Chevron or at least clarify that statutory silence concerning controversial powers expressly but narrowly granted elsewhere in the statute does not constitute an ambiguity requiring deference to the agency.”
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson recused herself because she heard arguments in this case when she was on the D.C. Circuit. Jackson did not participate in that court’s final opinion, being replaced by Judge Sri Srinivasan after President Joe Biden nominated her to fill Justice Stephen Breyer’s seat.
The case involves Loper Bright Enterprises, a family‐owned herring fishing company that operates in New England waters. A National Marine Fisheries Service regulation requires that herring fishing boats allow an additional person on board to serve as a monitor, tracking compliance with federal regulations. The monitor’s salary must be paid by the fishing company being monitored, reducing fishing profits in a business where margins are tight. Loper Bright Enterprises and other fishing companies sued to challenge the rule, saying the Magnuson-Stevens Act doesn’t mention payment of the monitor, but the district court ruled against the industry.
A divided panel on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the agency had appropriately interpreted the statute, deferring under the Chevron framework. Judge Justin Walker dissented, arguing “Congress did not…authorize the National Marine Fisheries Service to make herring fishermen in the Atlantic pay the wages of federal monitors.”
The Biden administration had urged the Supreme Court not to take up the case in an amicus brief, arguing it is an unsuitable vehicle in which to modify or overrule Chevron.
…After examining over 140 recent appellate cases, the Cato Institute, which filed an amicus brief in this case, concluded that “courts of appeals still defer under Chevron with regularity, despite the Supreme Court’s increasing reluctance to invoke the doctrine.” “Chevron will not fade away completely until the Supreme Court overrules it,” the group added.”
Here’s hoping the five wise men and woman on the SCOTUS decide this case the “right” way, as ending Chevron deference would have immense repercussions across our out-of-control federal bureaucracy.
“Geoffrey Hinton, a Google engineer widely considered the godfather of artificial intelligence, has quit his job and is now warning of the dangers of further AI development. Hinton worked at Google for more than a decade and is responsible for a 2012 tech breakthrough that serves as the foundation of current AIs like ChatGPT. He announced his resignation from Google in a statement to the New York Times, saying he now regrets his work.
“I console myself with the normal excuse: If I hadn’t done it, somebody else would have,” he told the paper. “It is hard to see how you can prevent the bad actors from using it for bad things,” Hinton went on to say of AI…”
Hinton’s belated warning brings to mind two movie scenes, the first from Jurassic Park…
…the second from Ghostbusters:
Given even our limited knowledge of the true potential of AI, Hinton means very, VERY bad.
In a related warning courtesy of The Epoch Times via Richard Colt, Jan Jekielek and Naveen Athrappully chronicle the thoughts of E.U. parliamentarian Christine Anderson as she cautions…
“A 15-minute city is a neighborhood where a resident can reach everything they need, like a grocery store, doctor, and so forth within a 15-minute walk. According to Anderson, such cities are the beginning of tighter government control of people. The administration can exert control by deciding “you are no longer allowed to leave your 15-minute immediate area. They don’t have to fence it in or anything. It will be done via digital ID,” she said in an interview with Jan Jekielek’s “American Thought Leaders” program published on April 25.
“If you now fancy another store and it does not happen to be in your neighborhood, guess what? You won’t be going to that store anymore. Like I said, total control is what we’re talking about.”
In Europe, legislation is being pushed forward to set up 15-minute cities. According to Anderson, the Digital Green Certificate, the COVID pass introduced during the pandemic, was only a test run designed to get people used to producing a QR code and related requirements. “Now, they’re slamming us with these 15-minute cities. Make no mistake, it’s not about your convenience. It’s not that they want you to be able to have all of these places that you need to get to close by. It’s not about saving the planet either,” Anderson said.
“With the 15-minute cities, they will have to have those before they can lock you down, and that’s what we were talking about here.” “In Great Britain, some counties have already passed legislation. They will be able to impose a climate lockdown. That’s the next step. That’s what we are talking about. In order to do that, they will have to have these 15-minute cities.”
The next step, Anderson says, will involve restricting people within their localities, only allowing them to leave the place two or three times a year. However, the rich will be able to get away with these rules as they can buy off exit passes from the poorer segments, she stated. “The poor people will be left in these 15-minute neighborhoods while the ones that are better off get to go wherever they want to go. This is what we are talking about.”…”
This is Dr. Faux Chi’s lockdown restrictions taken to their unconstitutional conclusion. Wake up and smell the tyranny…
It’s tantamount to discussing the value of pearls with swine.
Moving on, here’s another septet of special selections certain to sate the curiosity of inquiring Conservative minds:
(1). 42-year-old Shannon Brandt, who admitted intentionally running over 18-year-old “Republican extremist” Cayler Ellingson after a political argument at a street dance in North Dakota because he feared Ellingson was calling people to “come and get him” has inexplicably had his charges reduced from murder to manslaughter, according to court documents filed Monday.
(2). Portland police officers are AGAIN under fire for expressing what one city consultant deemed “problematic ideologies” that have “no place within” the Portland Police Bureau. The officers evidently didn’t hold back when asked to provide anonymous feedback about new training videos regarding interaction with members of the city’s “LGBTQIA2S+/Queer Community”. Responses to the videos included “hilariously ridiculous”, “colossal waste of time”, “patronizing”, “childish”, “offensive”, “garbage”, “unnecessary” and “indoctrination masquerading as training.” Another officer wrote, “This training is vile. God made male and female. Not hard to figure out.”
All of which prompted a highly-paid city consultant to conclude the feedback was “indicative of racism, ableism and white supremacy”, and that changing the culture of Portland police “has to be a higher priority”. It must be noted “a National Review analysis of the roughly 250 comments released by the city found virtually no evidence of “racism, ableism, or white supremacy” — not surprising, considering that the training had little if anything to do with race or physical ability.” You can check out one of the videos below and decide for yourself…
…though the fact the narrator’s wearing a mask tells us all we need to know.
“Anthony Fauci’s legacy is one of narcissism and power. The glorification of his massive ego trumped any scientific or medical data. His policies were giveaways to the pharmaceutical industry, which helped burnish his image and crush dissent. He saw his opportunity for the spotlight and seized it. Now, rather than admit mistakes, Fauci is intent on revising history. Unfortunately for his legacy, we’re all living with the consequences of his hubris, and they are impossible to overlook.”
(5). We’ve heard some whoppers in our time, but this claim by Karine Jean-Pierré, the first lesbian, woman-of-color-who-can’t-define-what-a-woman-is White House press secretary Biden’s border policies have reduced illegal immigration by 90% tops the list. Here’s…
…incredibly lame explanation for her bald-faced lie:
Yeah,…whatever. BTW, can the first lesbian, woman-of-color-who-can’t-define-what-a-woman-is White House press secretary answer a single question without referring to her voluminous notebook?!?
Which fairly screams the question how we’ll ever solve the problems in the Black “community” if The Left refuses to admit problems even exist; Other than, of course systemic racism and White supremacy.
(7). For more on the subject of professional liars, consider the following from Maryland’s senior senator Ben Cardin: BUT…
I am proud of all I have done for Maryland. I have given my heart and soul to our great state, and I thank Marylanders for trusting me as your representative for all these years.
Ben, please don’t take this personally, but…to Hell with you!!!
Which brings us, appropriately enough, to The Lighter Side:
Then there’s these from Speed…
…Balls Cotton…
…and Ed Hickey…
…along with these hand-picked from The Patriot Post:
Finally, we’ll call it a wrap with yet another sordid story straight from the pages of The Crime Blotter, as we record yet another triumph for a justice system long gone off the rails:
“A former Oklahoma woman is blasting the release of her 2003 rapist, who served 17 years in prison for raping her when she was 16 years old. He got out, got married and is now believed to have killed five teens, his wife and himself after missing the start of his trial on child porn charges. Okmulgee County deputies found seven people dead at Jesse McFadden’s Henryetta home Monday as they were searching for two missing teens who were believed to have been traveling with the convicted rapist.
…McFadden had sent threatening messages to the victim of a crime he was accused of committing in 2016 while he was behind bars. The registered sex offender was facing child pornography charges for allegedly trading explicit images with another 16-year-old with a smuggled phone from prison in 2016. In addition to alleged child pornography on his phone, court documents show prison officials found a picture of the girl’s learner permit and birthdate.
“In 2020, I actually got a hold of the court system and said, ‘You guys are going to let him out after I’d just seen this splashed across the news, and he had a court case with another young girl,'” Strong said. “‘You guys are still going to let him out?’ This shows that he has not changed.” McFadden was released from prison in 2020.
“It’s too soon in this Oklahoma case to know exactly what happened,” said Ambrosio Rodriguez, who spent more than a decade prosecuting child abuse and sex crimes in California before going into private practice. “It’s safe to say some agency screwed up. Jesse McFadden showed such sexual aggression that he was apparently willing to commit a sex crime against a minor while in state prison. That’s a new one for me in my 26 years of practicing law.”
Which just goes to prove even in an otherwise-Conservative state like Oklahoma the creep of Progressive insanity can triumph. Marcus Aurelius suggests the state parole board must be stocked with OU grads.
