It’s Friday, January 27th, 2023…but before we begin, check out Kevin McCarthy’s response to the incessant harassment of a “reporter”:
.@SpeakerMcCarthy to reporter: Let me be very clear & respectful to you. You ask me a question when I answer it it’s the answer to your question. You don’t get to determine whether I answer a question or not, okay? In all respect…what happens in the Intel Cmte you don’t know. pic.twitter.com/WD57QB7m1v
“…Don’t get me wrong; I think Santos ought to go. The argument that his constituents elected him and he ought to stay in Congress until his constituents toss him out glides over the fact that vast swaths of what his constituents knew about him was a pack of lies. When Tulsi Gabbard confronted him about his lies in that Fox News interview, Santos didn’t offer any real accountability or contrition; he hand-waved them away as “mistakes” and accused Gabbard of “nit-picking.” It seems fair to wonder if Santos has lied so habitually that he’s now delusional and believes his own fictions.
But you can see why Kevin McCarthy might find it worthwhile to let the gears of the consequences for Santos turn slowly. A Washington press corps that is obsessed with Santos’s incessant lying and potentially shady connections isn’t spending as much time insisting that the House GOP is the root of all evil. Sooner or later, the consequences of Santos’s voluminous deceptions will catch up to him. But between now and then, he’s a glasses-wearing, nervous-looking lightning rod, and the more lightning that strikes him, the less there is to strike the rest of the GOP House majority.“
Great point, though the only difference between Santos and almost every other member of Congress is the number of lies he’s told in such a short span of time. And other than the fact the latter’s been at it far longer, there’s certainly no difference whatsoever between Santos and Biden.
“On themost recent Editors podcast, Charlie made a good point (as he does with metronomic regularity): Biden’s reputation as a wise elder statesman was always shaky, and Afghanistan toppled the facade, but the latest classified-documents mess further proves that his entire campaign argument from 2020 was an illusion. Biden isn’t competent or responsible. He’s not a “grown-up,” the adults are not “back in charge,” and he isn’t bringing a new era of accountability and professionalism to Washington. Biden offers a lot of the same flaws as his predecessor, just with a “D” after his name.
Wasn’t it supposed to be different? Wasn’t the Biden presidency supposed to mark the return of grown-ups and professionalism to the White House? Weren’t Biden’s hallmarks his pedigree and experience, his competency and diligence? Or, setting aside his deficiencies for a moment, wasn’t Biden supposed to have surrounded himself with an able team of advisers who have been with him for decades, some back to his days in Delaware politics, to guide and protect him? What were they doing to protect Biden when the Very Important Classified Documents bled out to his think-tank office, his garage and his house, and stored for years? Or, are they just as sloppy as Biden and carriers of over-inflated reputations?“
“…The student had demonstrated violent anti-social behavior for quite some time, though never receiving the help he required; the student had voiced his desire to set a teacher on fire. This kid had become such a disturbance that his parents had to escort him to class, though they were absent on the day of the shooting, January 6…”
Here’s the juice: While the good doctor has clearly been hung out to dry, this story continues to raise any number of unanswered questions, including but not limited to: (i) If the parents were absent that fateful day, who prepared the kid for school and dropped him off? (ii). How could they not notice the weight of a Taurus 9mm in his backpack? (iii) Who notified staff at the school the child might have a weapon? (iv) Knowing the student’s history, why was he allowed to remain in the classroom after he’d been suspected of carrying a gun? (v) Where did he hide the gun while his backpack was searched? (vi) Why didn’t they check his pockets? (vii) And are we the only one beginning to think, to the extent possible for a 6-year-old, this was a premeditated act?
Meanwhile, in the far northwest corner of the Volunteer State, the…
“Nichols was pulled over on Jan. 7 around 8:30 p.m. for “reckless driving” near Raines Road and Ross Road in Memphis.
A “confrontation occurred” during the stop, which resulted in police chasing Nichols on foot, police said. He was later apprehended.“While attempting to take the suspect into custody, another confrontation occurred; however, the suspect was ultimately apprehended,” MPD said. “Afterward the suspect complained of having shortness of breath, at which point an ambulance was called to the scene.”
He was transported in critical condition to St. Francis Hospital, where he died three days later…”
Pulled over for reckless driving, a “confrontation occurred” during the stop which resulted in police chasing Nichols down on foot, followed by a second confrontation. Hmmm. Once again, a whole lotta questions with no answers. One hopes the body cam footage will show the entire incident, from the reckless driving which precipitated the stop through the time of the second confrontation.
“Don’t believe for a second Consumer Product Safety Commission member Richard Trumka Jr.’s slippery claim that they aren’t coming for your stove. Or the media narrative that Republicans are “hyping” a new “culture war” by “pretending” the Biden administration intends to ban gas stoves.
The reason gas stoves are in the news is simple: There is a coordinated, calculated—and well-funded—strategy to kill them off. It’s the joint enterprise of extremely powerful climate groups, working with Biden administration officials who have publicly stated their aim to eliminate all “combustion appliances” in homes. Only after the GOP called them out did anyone pretend otherwise.
Some of this is being exposed in letters sent this week by Senate Commerce Committee ranking member Ted Cruz to CPSC commissioners demanding more information. The letters highlight the primary groups behind this push. One is the Climate Imperative Foundation, which became an overnight green powerhouse and reported more receipts in 2021 than the League of Conservation Voters or the Sierra Club. A board member and funder is Kleiner Perkins billionaire John Doerr, whose climate action plan calls for getting rid of gas cooking. CIF’s executive director, Bruce Nilles, has made the end of gas stoves an imperative, writing in 2019: “Your gas stove has to go.” CIF has granted money to the Rocky Mountain Institute, which has long advocated “retrofitting” existing homes to be “all electric.”
Then there’s Rewiring America, “the leading electrification nonprofit, focused on electrifying our homes, businesses and communities.” And New York University’s Institute for Policy Integrity, which last year called on the CPSC to enact a gas-stove ban.
The stated goal of all these group is killing gas to “save” the planet. Yet they also know Americans won’t give up their stoves in the name of climate. So several years ago this cabal hit on the idea of contradicting decades of science and ginning up hokey studies claiming gas stoves present a “health risk.” The twin goals: scare Americans and give government a pretext to ban gas cooking.
This is how you end up with climate outfits masquerading as health experts. One frequently cited study from the Rocky Mountain Institute—claiming to find a link between gas stoves and childhood asthma—was co-authored by two RMI staffers, neither of whomhas a science degree. Another favorite study by New York University’s Institute for Policy Integrity claims gas stoves cause “dangerous levels of indoor air pollution.” It was written by two lawyers, and it cites . . . the RMI study. Ah, science.
Then there’s the paid research. The November edition of the “independent” magazine Consumer Reports was devoted to the “Hidden Health Hazards in Your Home” and explained that its research found an “alarming concern” with levels of nitrogen dioxide from gas stoves. (It also featured a four-page tribute to induction cooktops, the left’s expensive alternative to gas.) Tucked at the end of the article online was an editor’s note: “This project was funded in part with a grant from the Climate Imperative Foundation.” CIF’s 2021 tax filings show a $375,000 donation to Consumer Reports specifically for research on gas stoves…”
Still no word on how Progressives plan on providing all added grid capacity to power their green energy dreams. This calls for an encore performance of Tom McClintock’s climate tour de force:

In another example of educated idiocy, one Luis Leyva, assistant professor of mathematics at Vanderbilt, recently argued in a presentation at a prestigious symposiummath education is White and cisheteropatriarchal space, and “limits” queer and students of color. This from…an associate professor of math…of color…at Vanderbilt University. Seriously, how limiting can math possibly be?!?
